so/ names... syllable thoughts?

Our last name is one word/syllable, starts with a D. (german)

So IMO, that limits some names, boy or girl, because they don't sound right with a one syllable last name, and who calls kids by their whole names?

I think it affects middle names too, but that's me being picky.

What do you think has the best "flow" to it, syllable wise? should I care so very much?

Like, my fav girl name is 2 sylls, and I think it'll only sound right if MN is 1 syll.  dum dum, dum, dum.  lol.

  • I see what you're saying. I think one or three syllables for the middle name would sound okay with the two syllable first name.

I'm pretty into the syllable flow too.  DS's name is 3 1 2, and so is this next baby's (Natalie Kate 2 syllable ln).  That's my fave with a 2 syllable last name.

    I just think it's best if it's varied.  For a one syllable last name I think 2 1 1 would work, as would 2 3 1 or 2 4 1 if you liked a 2 syllable first name.  If you liked a 3 syllable name then 3 1 1 or 3 2 1 would work.

  • I'm really big on syllables too...our LN is only one syllable and I refuse to have a first name with only one syllable...I just think it sounds like "blah blah" to me...my SIL says the same thing as i do anad her three all have multi syllable first names.  It does limit some of our boy names significantly though b/c a lot of the names I like are only one syllable long.  I don't care so much how many it has when you add the middle name in, more so just when you're saying the first and last together.

  • The trios names are all different Xan is 2,3,2 Hayden is 2,2,2 and Lily is 2,4,2 and I think they all flow...to me anyway I guess I could be wrong.

I think I would stay away from a 1 syllable first name but other than that I bet anything would work.
