when i was pregnant with my son, i would tell strangers who asked the baby's name that I was naming him Chase Utley Mylastname or Brett Favre Mylast name, two of my favorite players. It was funny to see how many people really thought I was serious.
An old coworker/friend of mine used to tell people she was naming her kid after our boss! She would call him JJD IV! (our boss was a III). Oh my gosh, she made me laugh so hard!!!
Anyone else do this just for giggles, haha.
Re: Do you have fake names you tell people you are naming your baby?
Yes, and I LOVE it.
Names we use: Gary, Steve, Larry, Moe, Curly (the last 3 being the stooges)...we aren't telling anyone the "real" name until he's here.
Antwyn Keisha. Used to tell people it was a unisex name! The look on MIL's face was piceless.
We didn't pick a name until 33 weeks. My dad decided to call the baby Bill until he was born. No idea where he got Bill from.
We have given my nosey invasive mother a cavalcade of awful names every time she asks (Like Thorfinn if it's a boy and Minerva if its a girl), b/c she knows that we don't want to tell and she keeps asking every time we see her.
With others, not so much, but they aren't being nearly as pushy.
There's an idea!!
We have a name we are not sharing with people IRL until he's born...so maybe from now on I will tell everyone we are naming him David Beckham L...as DH is a huge European soccer fan.

When I want to say "none of your business" I usually go with the nicer response of "we have a few we're thinking about but haven't picked one yet."
Since most of my family and friends are not the type to harass us over our name choices, we've told them the few we're thinking of. We are keeping the MN a secret from my grandma since plan to use her name and want it to be a nice surprise.
My mother (seriously!) suggested Hedwig. It made my sister and I laugh so hard, we started calling the baby Hedwig before she was born and I'd tell people that was the name we were using. It was hard to do with a straight face.
(And even the people that weren't a fan of Sylvia had to admit it was better than Hedwig.)
Nope. Right now I call refer to it as the Seedling/Damn Baby, and if people ask for the name then I just preface with "we love, so you need to start loving it."
