Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When does the new mom anxiety ease up?

Is he too hot? Too cold? Hungry? Too full? Is he comfortable?

I am driving myself crazy and he's not even a week old. It just makes me nervous, he's so fragile. I'm so scared he may break.

Please tell me it'll eventually get easier..I'm know it never goes away but, how long will I worry myself sick?

Re: When does the new mom anxiety ease up?

  • Hang in there, it does get better.  I still 2nd guess myself alot, and think that's just a part of motherhood.  My anxieties finally eased up late last week.  Up until then, after my mom and dad left and DH went back to work, it was hell and I cried nonstop.

  • It will ease up - you are just getting used to each other.  Give it a little time and you will find a routine or rhythm that works.  It's mostly trial and error!
  • I literally could just vomit from worry, ugh. Thanks girls.
  • Take a breath love!  For me it was 4-6 weeks pp that I stopped worrying constantly but it's just part of being a mom it won't completely go away.  It does get better though I promise! Hang in there! REST and love on Dillion!  Let me know if you need anything! If I have to I will drive up there and watch that sweet baby for you so you can get some sleep!

  • Trust your instincts. Really.  You'll be fine and so will Dillon!

    yes ma'am!!

  • I'm just now starting to relax a little. Hang in there, I promise it gets better! And I haven't been online much and didn't realize you had your LO so congrats!
  • Second kid.

I am joking somewhat.  Confidence will come once those crazy hormones are out of your system and everything stops being so new.  Trouble is that new stuff pops up all the time.  We are going through pneumonia with my toddler and all that anxiety is back full force.

Edit.  I was a mess those first  weeks with my first.  I felt that I was going to break him or fall down while holding him.  I would hate going to sleep at night because I wasn't on "alert."  Hormones suck!

Thr first few weeks are the hardest. Keep him off the coffee table and you'll be fine.

Not to give you another thing to worry about, but my friend had post partum anxiety disorder, its another flavor of PPD - it kicked in a few hours after she had her baby and got worse for weeks until she finally spoke up about it and got treatment.

Anxiety and worry are normal, but being so worried you could throw up, doesn't sound normal.  Keep an eye on it and talk to your doctor if its that bad.

For me, I started to relax a little after 2 weeks when DD and I were alone and I had to figure stuff out by myself.  It was scary, but it made me more confident.

  • For me it was around 5-6 weeks pp.  Just one day I thought to myself, "I can do this."  I still worry a lot, but it's not as intense as it used to be in the first few weeks.
