3rd Trimester

Cramping/Contraction??

So last night I was woken up out of a dead sleep with the worst cramps in the world.  I layed there a minute thinking they would go away or let up and it didn't, so then I tried turning over and that didn't stop it, so then I got up to see if I just had to go to the bathroom, and nope that didn't help.  So I got back in bed and just tried to sleep and kept tossing and turning and finally after about 45 minutes I got up to walk around my house because I couldn't take it anymore.  I was literally in the kitchen leaning on my counters moaning and breathing like a mad woman cause it hurt like crazy!  Finally I got a big glass of water and just sat on the edge of the couch and it finally went away after and hour and a half.  Has this happend to anyone??  If it was a real contraction I would have thought that it would have let up, but it didn't??  It was just this constant very strong period-like cramps for all that time....so what was it??  Sorry so long, I've had a few more little cramps today but they just lasted like 30 seconds and I didn't even think twice about them because they were very irregular.  Any advice would be great!!  Thanks ladies!

Re: Cramping/Contraction??

  • Sorry you didn't have a good night sleep.  I've never experienced any cramps that painful but I have experienced lower back pain.  It was constant and painful... The doc, just told me to drink more fluids.

  • I've been experiencing period like cramping for about a week now.  They happen about 1-2 times a day and last for about an hour each time.  I'm no wuss when it comes to pain, and they are very painful.  Everyone says they are BH.  I just thought they'd be shorter and higher up, but I guess everyone is different.
  • I had the exact same night you just described about two weeks ago.  I thought it might be LO dropping (as she dropped then).  I've been having them on and off since then and called the on call nurse about it once.  She told me to drink water, take a warm bath, yada yada.  They went away after that and I just assumed they were BH or my body "gearing up".
  • i've had lots of cramping lately too... in my birth class they said that being dehydrated or just not hydrated enough can make you crampy or intensify it so whenever i'm feeling like that I try to drink a bunch of water and it usually helps they also recommended to try some tylenol if you are ok with taking it.  Hope that helps... I've thought i was going into labor at least 3 times in the past two weeks because of cramping like that and waking up during the night with painful cramps but no ds yet!  Good luck!

  • that happened to me last week-  I called the OB and she sent me to L&D to get checked out.  Found out I was dehydrated.

  • The same thing has happened to me 4 or 5 times (although never at night.)  I don't know what it is, because it doesn't sound like the way everyone describes BH.  I'm positive I wasn't dehydrated, and when I mentioned it at my doctor's visit, she was pretty vague.
