Most Natural Sunscreen and Bug Spray

I am looking for a sunscreen and a bug spray (we are camping this summer) for my 7 mos. old little man and I am looking for something with the least amount of chemicals but stilll affective.  Any thoughts?  Someone mentioned something about one made from cactus juice but they only found it on line...heard of that?
Praying this little one sticks!

Re: Most Natural Sunscreen and Bug Spray

  • California Baby makes a good product. ?I haven't tried the bug stuff yet, but the sunscreen is great. ?I will be getting the sunscreen/bug combo soon! ?Smile

  • Burt Bees has a good natural sunscreen
  • We use California Baby sunscreen. We will either go with California Baby or Burt's Bees for bug repellent.

Here is a link for safe sunscreens from the website Safe Mama (which I highly recommend):

    And for safe bug repellent:

We use the California baby sunblock and bug spray on her (at the same time) and they worked great.

We went off the SafeMama list that kelbrain suggested, and use TruKid Sunny Days. I had to order it online, but so far it works great and smells sooo yummy (like oranges), which is a nice bonus!

We also have the Burt's Bees one, but haven't tried that yet. And we use Blue Lizard Baby when we're in a pinch, since EWG (Environmental Working Group) recommends it, even though SafeMama disagrees.

They disagree because it contains three different types of parabens. ?

Yeah, I haven't read up on what that means, exactly... I was disappointed, because the Blue Lizard one was easy to find and goes on so nicely! So is EWG's list more focused on what's better for the environment, while SM's list is what's better for baby?

I think so, yes, although I can't imagine that parabens are that great for the environment either. Parabens are hormone disruptors and have been linked to increasing the risk of breast cancer.?
