Looks like I will be going to training for 2 weeks in late June. Haven't gotten the specifics yet, so not sure if I'll be coming home the weekend in between or not.
I just did a 4 day trip to Mexico, but this would be leaving on a Sunday evening, returning on Friday evening - which just seems long to me.
Any tips for keeping things going during that time? I have to count my freezer stash, but it should be enough to cover while I'm out; plus I'm going to re-add a pumping session.
DH and I have discussed that I may just fly home on my own dime for the weekend - 1 so I can bring home the milk I pumped and 2 to help give him a break. Worse case scenario - I'll get dry ice and overnight the milk home.
Re: Moms that travel & nurse/pump - what's the longest you've been away from baby for work?
The longest I was gone was for 6 days - and I did ship milk back half way through the trip on dry ice via Fed Ex. The milk arrived completely frozen solid. I would highly recommend doing that so that you don't end up with as much milk to carry back on the airplane.
Good luck!
That's really different from conventional wisdom (9 days in a regular freezer). Even Medela says 3-4 months regular freezer.
In any event, I've gotten more details and the good news is the training is Noon Monday to 1 PM Friday. This means I can nurse Monday before leaving for an 8 AM flight out (which is the biggest of the daily feedings) and I'll be home in time to nurse him before bed on Friday night! Plus, the training is in our Chicago office, which means there should be a nursing mother's room and a fridge with a freezer!! Should be a breeze now :-)
