I'm gearing up the nerve to start Ferber with one of my girls next week. I hate the thought since she's a screamer but its my last hope for a good nights sleep! I'd love to hear any success stories. Also, how old were your babies when you did it?
We just started last Friday & so far so good. We had a hiccup though. She was sick the other night with diarrhea so we are just sticking it out again now that she's feeling better.
DD is a screamer as well & the 1st couple night where hard. Plus we started so late so it was harder on her to adjust. Once she did though, wow. She went right down no problem by night 4 & STTN till she got sick. Wish we had done it sooner.
Tried it at 4 months and it didn't work at all. Tried it again at 6.5 months and he was weaned from being swaddled, using a binky, and being rocked to sleep in 3 nights. Still doesn't usually sleep through the night, but that is okay with me for now.
We did it at the same time we stopped swaddling, around 5 months. By night three, we were able to put her down and she talked to herself for about 10 minutes and then fell asleep. The bedtime routine seems to be what really makes it work for us. We also hear her wake up in the night once in a while, but she ggoes back to sleep on her own within a minute or two.

I did it at 6 months because dd was starting to wake every 2 hours...and I thought I would die if I didn't start getting sleep. It worked for us in a few nights. The first two were the worst, but after that it went great. It was so much easier than I thought it would be and dd and I were both much happier with sleep. She got a cold and was teething around 8 months so we had to re-do it after that passed and it went great. Everyone is different, but it definitely worked for us.
It really does work. I was rocking my DS untill 11:00 at night. At least two hours. I would try to put him in his crib and as soon as I would put him over the rail he would start to cry. Now I put him in his crib at eight and he rolls over and goes to sleep on his own. It so much less stressful. It's was hard to let him scream. I felt like a horrible mom but after a week he was fine! Well worth it in the end. For them and you. Good Luck!
