Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

More airplane/baby questions

Do you know if you can take a car seat on the plane (not checked in) if you don't have a seat for the baby? I am thinking of buying a gogo Kidz Travelmate if I can do this. Also, how far in advanced do you have to call the airline to let them know you have a lap baby? (we bought our tickets on travelocity).

TIA

Re: More airplane/baby questions

  • We traveled to Chicago for Christmas last year.  You don't need a seat for a child under the age of 2 because they consider that a lap baby.  I bought my tickets 6 months in advance & I told them 2 months before we left.

  • I've called in advance and I've waited til I got to the airport to check in that I had a lap baby.
  • Some airlines will let you bring the seat if there is room, but I wouldn't count on it.

We flew over Mother's Day and I never told them about A until we checked in. Bring a copy of DS's birth certificate or shot record. Anything with proof of age. Some gate agents will let you sail through and others will give you a hard time. It's easier just to have the documents.

  • Woo Hoo for booking on Travelocity Big Smile (I work there!)

I think American actually lets you check in an infant online now (when you print off your boarding pass).  It doesn't hurt to call the airline (or Travelocity... they can add the infant) just to let them know.

     Have a great trip!

  • I've always just showed up with DD and never had any questions. Also have never had to show any documents!
