Ouch! How crappy! Sorry to hear that. :-( They could have at least called you! I hope something better will come along when you're ready to go back to work.
You are on FMLA, right? If so, that's against the law. Or does your company not qualify for FMLA? Either way that sucks - sorry!
How freakin' crappy though that they couldn't even call or ask you to come in to tell you - they should have known before you left if your maternity leave would be a problem.
If you are on FMLA they are not required to keep YOUR job, just A job for you. Either way what they did sucks, and hopefully you are on FMLA and you can contact the NC Dept of Labor because that would be against the law.
I think you have to have 50 employees to be protected by FMLA, somebody correct me if I'm wrong...and I'm thinking you worked for a small office. Your bosses sound like total a$$holes. I hope you are able to find something better!
I'm sorry, that does suck. And Wendy's right. FMLA has a lot of restrictions and loopholes that allows companies to do what they did to you, unfortunately.
Yep, only companies of over 50 employees are required to offer FMLA. And there are other screwy loopholes..If you work for a larger company, but the local office you work in has less than 50 employees, they wouldn't have to offer it either.
Im so sorry to hear that. THey could have at least had you come in the office or even called you and todl you on the phone. I got laid off the day I went back to work from Maternity Leave, but that was also along with a bunch of others being laid off too. I think of it as extra time I'm getting with DS. Did you get fired or laid off....cuz you should def. look into unemployment if you can get it...good luck!!
Toads, they're required to have your job or a compareable position open for you to return, and yes, small companies aren't required.
So sorry that happened to you. I lost mine upon returning from maternity also [but mine was more legal, but equally as shitty], but I was so lucky to find one two weeks later.
Definitely check out unemployment. They make it so easy to apply online.

Yeah, this B**** is a real piece of work, let me tell ya. Nope, not FMLA. What is even more awesome of her, is that she told me when gave her my leave proposal in Nov. (finally met with me in Dec.) that "it was a really bad time for me to have a baby". And I worked in the juvenile products industry...
we agreed for me to do work from home--it would be a different position than what I was doing. And BAM--sitting at home, enjoying my baby and she pulls that crap on me. I have to say, I am not that surprised considering she is a liar and always has been, and fair treatment to employees is not in her vocab.
It was stressful though--my milk went away pretty much for 3 days. Gotta love people like that.
Oh I am sorry to hear that! I got laid off when I was 8 months pregnant. But it turned out to be such a blessing. I am able to draw unemployment and stay home with Will indefinitely. I hated the company anyway, so while it was unfortunate it has really worked out for the best. Hopefully this will end up being a blessing so you can stay home with Keira a little longer! Hang in there.
Ugh, I'm sorry, that's a terrible way to handle things! At least you don't have to deal with that awful lady anymore. GL finding something you like better!

Yeah thats what I said, they dont have to keep your specific job, just a job, sorry I left out comparable.
Any way you look at it, its shitty and sucks and I hope you find something that will appreciate the fact that you are a Mother soon. There are lots of companies who LOVE working Moms.
