3rd Trimester

When i tell people im 9 months pregnant, they give me a blank stare...

Whenever people ask me how far along i am, i say 9 months.. then they usually say "how are you 9 months? shouldnt you have had the baby by now?"

and im like "no im not at the end of my 9th month yet" ..

then... ::blank stare::

kinda hilarious.

Re: When i tell people im 9 months pregnant, they give me a blank stare...

  • The blank stare is one of my all-time favorite responses.
  • Loading the player...
  • People don't understand the real timeline of being pregnant. ?It makes me laugh
  • I just keep saying "Any day now." That usually gives them the answer they wanted to hear all along.
  • I've resorted to saying I have three weeks left. People don't get it when I say I'm 9 months.
  • Oh, it's always a mess when I tell people how pregnant I am. I even confuse myself. I just say that's he'd due at the beginning of August and leave it at that.
  • it's amazing how many people have had kids and still don't know the timing.

i am at the point where i say '3 weeks to go'... it is all around easier than trying to explain :)

  • What I don't get are comments like this:

Them: So when are you due?
    Me: July 13th
Them: Oh wow! Well maybe you'll have the baby on my birthday!
    Me: When is your birthday?
    Them: May 29th.

::headdesk:: Why would anyone assume I would want to have the baby 7 weeks early?

  • even DH looks at me like I'm crazy... so now I just say how many weeks i have left.  so much easier for people to grasp within five minutes of conversation.

  • :::chuckles:::

I like to tell people that I am in my 8th "lunar month".  They will never figure that one out.

Plus, the "How far along" question is usually followed up by the "You are so huge", or "Are you excited", or "Not too long now".  As if, I wasn't counting down the days, well aware of my figure, or suffering from emotional detachment that I would not be excited about having this baby.  I don't want to hear the comments...

...so I leave them there stumped.

  • agreed. it's funny, but then it's also kinda sad that people (esp other women) don't understand how their body works in any sort of great detail... what to do...

  • I had no idea of the timeline before becoming pregnant myself
  • Not so much anymore, because I'm only a couple weeks away - but back in April if I said I was due in "early June" (my due date is June 2nd) I'd get the "oh you have a ways to go" response but if I said "around the end of May" I'd get the "wow that is coming up so soon" response. I didn't realize a couple of days made the difference between "a ways to go" and "coming up so soon" :)
  • My guy is due August 4th and people often say to me that maybe I will get lucky and he will hold out until my borthday, which is August 22nd.  I know they are being funny, but this kid better not hold off that long.  I would hope an induction would come into play.

I love these comments. Or the "you haven't had your baby yet?" yeah, I still have 6 weeks to go, thanks for the reminder. My fav is the 'are you excited?' everytime I want to say, "um, no not really"

  • I'm just doing the coutdown for people too...11 weeks left!  Makes it so much easier for them to grasp.

  • I think people lose all basic math skills when they see a pregnant belly. A few weeks ago someone asked how far along, and I tried to give it to them a few ways:

    "I'm 7m, so 12 weeks to go"

And they said "Oh, so you're due in June, almost there!" Umm, no.

  • So, I guess I could really freak people out by telling them that I hit 10 mos. today? =) I can kind of understand that: before being pregant, I always thought that it meant you had completed x number of months, when in reality, you're IN the ninth month...and I might be IN my 10th month, but I'm def. not planning on being pg for a complete 10 mos!

    Ditto.

I am in my 31st year but I tell people I am 30 years old.

I really don't think pregnancy months are any different than years.  I don't tell people I'm 27 because I'm in my 27th year.  I'll say I'm 26 until my 27th birthday.

I can see where it can be confusing if you count in lunar months which is why I just count back from my due date now.  I'm due on 7/4, so on 7/4 I'll be 9 months.  That means 2 weeks from today I'll start saying I'm 8 months.

well technically if you are assuming that there are 4 weeks per month .. 40/4 = 10

REALLY....are some people that dumb!  There are 4 weeks/months but everyone except February has more than 4 weeks making pg 9 months...not 40/4 = 10 months.  Baby is due 9 months after conception...if you are overdue you can say you are IN your 10th month but you are only a little over 9 months.

  • pregnancy can technically be 9 or 10 months depending on if you view it by the gregorian calendar or the lunar calendar.

I agree with this. I never get the confusion. I got pregnant in early Sep. I am due in early June. That is 9 months. NINE months. 4 weeks does not = a month.

At this point I tell people I have 2 weeks left. It's much easier. Though I have never been on the 36 weeks = 9 months bandwagon. I was 8 months on May 7th (one month before my due date), which was only 2 weeks ago.

I give a side eye to BearKatLou for saying "any day now" at 35 weeks. How disappointing if you went to 42 weeks...

I think the "any day now" line is reserved for people over 39 weeks.

well technically if you are assuming that there are 4 weeks per month .. 40/4 = 10

And if you assume 4 weeks per month, 52 weeks per year divided by 4 weeks per month would give you 13 months per year.

yes .. right .. clearly my mistake for being that "dumb" right johnsoar?

     anyway,

     weeks/month by lunar calendar

    1-4 1
    9-12 3
    17-20 5
    25-28 7
    33-36 9

dates/months by gregorian calendar is your due date is july 22nd

    November 15 1
    January 15 3
    March 15 5
    May 15 7
    July 15 9

neither of those are right technically -

dd nine months and seven days to the start date of your last menstrual period, which would actually be a week before you would have ovulated with a 28-day cycle. therefore, if you started your LMP on october 15, you due date would be calculated as july 22, not july 15.

    date/month/week

    November 15 1 4.33
January 15 3 13 (start of second trimester)
    March 15 5 21.66
    May 15 7 30.33
    July 15 9

    39

  • yeah...I just tell them the due date or "any day now" bc even before I was full term, I would tell ppl my due date and they would say, "any day now".

I got called yesterday by a sect. in a building I long term subbed at.  She was like, "did you have your baby yet?"  "no" "when are you due again?" Sunday" "Do you want to sub tomorrow for Tammie?"

ditto! How hard is it to divide how many weeks you are by 4.... So I am 30 weeks divide that by 4 = 7.5 months so if she is 37 weeks she is 9.2 moths pregnant... thats my way of counting it... Check out just mommies website...
