NGPR: How do you clean your jewlery?

I usually take mine into the store we bought it at but am in no way up for an extra errand today and my rings, earrings, and necklace are in desperate need. I have yellow gold jewlery. What's your favorite at-home solution?

Re: NGPR: How do you clean your jewlery?

  • 2/3 water, 1/2 vinegar, microwave for 2 minutes...soak jewelry for a few minutes then use a toothbrush. Works like a charm.

  • Loading the player...
  • I use the Connoisseurs jewelry cleaner, and a toothbrush, to clean my jewelry on a regular basis. When I want my stuff really cleaned I go and have the Jeweler do it.

Desperately want one of those cool sonic jewelry cleaners though..

  • Soak them in rubbing alcohol first, then do the soapy water and brush.

    *edit*  yup, vinegar is correct

I learned this trick from my jeweler. I let my rings soak over night, use a soft bristled toothbrush, and it works like magic. I always get compliments on how shiny my rings are!

Edit: they don't HAVE to soak over night, 1/2 an hour or so will do, I just normally clean them Saturday morning, so I soak them Friday nights!

Probably. They're all acidic...I'd stay away from Balsamic though...not sure what the color would do........

Haha! True! Besides, bread with oil and balsamic is the only thing that appeals to me lately...definitely wouldn't dream of wasting it on my jewlery...even if it wouldn't hurt them. :)

  • Thank you much ladies! I'm heading downstairs to start the soaking process. :)
  • jewelry cleaner and a soft toothbrush

  • antibacterial soap & a toothbrush
  • I have a sonic jewelry cleaner so that is what I use. Sometimes I use windex and two ziplock baggies and throw them in the sonic at work before they clean it for the day.
  • heat some windex in the microwave and then soak your jewlery for a few min...hit it with a soft toothbrush and rinse with warm water.  Super shiny, my mom's friend taught me this and she was a jewler for years.  I do this when I don't want to take the ride to our jewlers and they come out super shiny and clean!

  • I heard that toothpaste works good too if they are really dirty.  The mild abrasive seems to remove all the gunk and is still safe on your gems.

**the paste though, not the gel.

  • I soak them in windex then scrub with a tooth brush.
  • Don't use any type of household or jewelry cleaner on pearls becuause it will ruin them.  You need a special cleaner or a soft cloth to clean them.
