C-section mamas got a couple questions..

I have read the Steri Strips stay on a week or 10 days.....is that a range or what?  I don't remember what the doctor said and I am scared to death to take them off anyway.  I also read someone removed them in a hot bath.  I didn't think baths were allowed yet.

Also, the right side of incision is much more sensetive than the left.  I have read that "can" be normal.  Did you have this?

Thanks.  I am doing my best to rest and recover but I didn't think I would be THIS hungry healing and bfing....wowza.

The strips, if the skin is getting red under you can take them off, I did at 7 days both times. Red means the skin is breaking down. Use peroxide and a cotton ball to desolve and clean the tape off.

One side has always been more sore than the other, still is.

  • My steristrips took over 2 weeks to be completely off. The doctor actually peeled away a lot, I would always find pieces of them on my towel after a shower.

I had more pain on one side of my incision also, but mine became infected (due to my fever in labor) and came open. I'm 6 weeks pp and it's just starting to not be tender when I dry off after a shower.

  • most of mine came off by day 10, but my dr said if they were there by day 12 to pull them off. my right side has been more sore and sensitive since day one. it sucks.

  • My Dr said thats the range and that after about a week, they would start to fall off themselves, especially in the shower.  I was not about to peel mine off.  Mine stayed adhered to my skin and when I went back to the Dr for my 2 week appt, she took them off.  She was even amazed at how well they stayed on me.  In the beginning, the right side of my incision was more tender than the rest.  Not sure why though.

  • Most of my steri-strips fell off in the shower, I still have 3 hanging on for dear life though, lol. I see the doc tomorrow, she'll pull them off then if they are ready.

I have the same hypersensitivity on the right side of my incision, it feels like I'm being stabbed. I've been assured that this is normal,

  • The nurse in the hospital said they'd come off around 10 days...they were still on by my 2 week check up so I ended up peeling them off. I was terrified it'd hurt or I'd screw something up but they came off easy. The area is still a lil sensitive and like you, one side is more sensitive than the other. I think its just the nerves reconnecting.

  • Thanks so much!

    This. Exactly.

  • my steri strips took about 2 or 2 1/2 weeks to come off. ?the home nurse told me not to mess with them unless they were there after 3 weeks, then to take them off.

  • I didn't have steri strips but I did have more pain on one side than the other.
  • I'm the one that took them off in the bath.  They told me they would just fall off on their own so I didn't worry about them.  At my 6 week appointment they were still there.  My MW told me to peel them off in the shower.  But since I was cleared to take a bath that sounded better to me.
