Pregnancy Shadowed by Sadness

Yesterday at 5:20pm my dog chased a squirrel out of our yard and has not returned.  We searched until dark last night and I took the day from work to look today.  We posted signs with her picture all over the put 80 flyers in people's doors.  My pup is so special to me- DH and I have had her since she was 8 weeks and she just turned 7 this month.

We are devasted and do not know what else to do.  We contacted police and human societies within 20 miles.  She is the sweetest, nicest dog and my fear is that someone is going to keep her.  We put a $500 reward on the posters encouraging her safe return.

I was so excited for her to meet our baby and I just cannot stop crying.  Has anyone experienced this before and what else did you try?

  • Have you  contacted your local vets? A lot of people call vet hospitals when they find a dog, especially i she has one of their rabies tags on. Also if she has a microchip, many microchip companies will help you. At least call and let them know so if she gets brought in somewhere as a stray they will know she has been reported. I'm really sorry, I hope she comes home soon.

  • Oh that's a bummer. I hope you find her soon.
  • I'm so sorry for your lost dog, I've been there with my min pin, Remi, who escapes a lot out of the back yard no matter what we do.  Don't lose hope yet, it took almost a week to get Remi back after he ran away.  Your doing everything you can right now to get him home, especially the reward offering.  Good luck!

  • aww, hun im so sorry, don't give up hope, they may come back soon, the reward, esp right now when folks are broke, will def give a boost to people paying attention. im so sorry, my cats keep gettin out of their fence and gettin lost or ( i think) dogs gettn them. :(  just keep calln vets and humane societys and puttn up posters. we did an ad in our local newpaper with reward in the lost and found sect too.

     def keep us posted!

  • My dog ran off the week before my wedding and it was horriable! I couldn't do anything the entire day! So I feel your pain! We put an add on the local radio station and they mentioned it many times throughout the day! Then we put a reward on the station and we got a call saying that our dog had just ran into their yard...when we went to go pick her up they were talking about how much their kids loved her and how nice a dog she had been ALL day. Scumbags!

    Long story short...try the radio and mention the reward a million times!

    Does your dog have tags on?

  • Make sure you post on Craigslist and make a trip to the humane societies EVERY DAY.  Do not count on them to call you - they try, but they see so many animals each day that it is easy for them to miss one.  Also, contact any rescue groups in your area, since people frequently turn strays over to them.  Good luck!
  • I am so sorry...I would lose it if one of my dogs ran away so I can only imagine. :(
  • I was going to say post on craigslist lost section as well as on their pets section everyday. Also I think there are services you can pay that look for your lost pets. Try to google it. I hope you find your dog!!?
  • That's hard - I'm so sorry!
  • I hope your baby makes it home soon, you must be beside yourself.

    Don't beat yourself up about the microchip, that would only get checked if the dog was taken to a pound or vet's office anyhow.

    Just keep thinking positively, you acted quickly.

  • My baby is home safe! We got the call at 9am from the humane society this morning- she is now on lockdown!  Thanks for all your kind words.
