1st Ultrasound- Suprise...TWINS!

in 1st Trimester

So I went for my 1st internal US on Monday b/c I have been spotting.  As she's looking around she wasn't saying anything- finally my DH said- what's that big black thing.  She said- that's the placenta but I think I see 2 fetuses...yep there are 2 hearbeats!  I was like.. NO WAY!!!  I am so so so shocked!  We feel very blessed but what a freak out!  I am still getting used to the idea of two babies growing inside me...it's amazing. 

In meantime- there was a bleed in my placenta so I have to go for another internal US Tuesday but my Hcg levels are high- 25,500.   

I feel like I don't really have a handle on things- bleed in the placenta??  and?  I mean am I supposed to just roll over to that? Gosh and I am so tired!

Sorry for the vent- but I have been meaning to post this since Monday!

    Wow!!! Congrats!  I have had spotting too and the doctor thinks it is from broken blood vessels and the placenta....  Everything looks fine.  Im sure everything is fine for you too!

    My Grandma on my mom's side has twins in her mother's- so it's my great-grandma's generation.  But we didn't know til know that they actually run in the fam!!  My sister and cousins all have kids and I'm last!!  So the whole fam is super-shocked!

    Ditto do they run in the family? I am curious whats the chances of twins in pregnancy

    One placenta, two fetuses means identical. It doesn't matter if twins run in her family or not. Identical twins are not hereditary.

    so there was only one placenta? so they are maternal twins? how awesome.

    i hope the bleeding thing turns out to be ok and that you and both babies end up fine.

    As of now they only see 1 placenta, which would mean identical twins!  But I am just taking it day by day. 

    I am still confused about this whole "placenta bleed" thing.  I am trying to google it but I am not finding what I need.

    I had a placental bleed the with my first two pregnancies.  It resolved itself pretty quickly.  I wouldn't worry.  Congrats on having TWINS!!!!!

    I can't help with any information on the bleed in the placenta (sorry!) but congrats on finding out about your twins!!  I found out that that I'm pregnant with twins early on as well (6 weeks, 5 days) and it is definatly a huge shock.  But that just means double the blessing!  Congratulations again!!
