1st Trimester

Is it too early to buy baby stuff?

I know i've seen a couple of ladies on here who have purchased some baby things, but usually they are around 12 weeks or so. I'm at the end of 9 weeks and moving into 10 weeks. I was cleaning out my wallet and found a gift card for $100 to Bed Bath & beyond that I didn't know I had, and after looking around their website I'm most interested in the baby stuff (gee I wonder why) but I feel a bit rediculous buying things when I'm still a month away from my second trimester.

Or I'm in intereseted in the snoggle pillow. What do you ladies think?

  • Buy baby stuff!  It makes it feel more real.  I've bought a couple baby things, and I'm 8 1/2 weeks.

  • GET A SNOOGLE. I've needed one for the last week and am waiting for it to get here.  I wish I would've had it in advance.

I bought some baby things before I was 12 weeks.

  • I say go for it!!!
  • Oh yeah, that thing is supposed to be a lifesaver. I'm planning on getting it this time around.

  • Does the gift card expire soon? If so, I would use it. If not, I would wait a few weeks until the second trimester. I am just cautious like that. Not to say I haven't been researching and have a list of things to buy! But I will be waiting.

  • Who cares if it's too early, if you want something then you should get it.  I bought my crib and chest around 7w with DS.  My mom and I went out a few days after I found out I was pg with DS, we went out and bought a few baby clothes and a few maternity clothes.  The only thing I've bought this time so far is a baby name book yesterday on Ebay, I just haven't had the desire yet.
  • i didn't buy anything with DS until after the anatomy ultrasound in the 2nd trimester.  it was my own hangup.
  • I love the snoogle.  And I say buy baby stuff when you want to. It feels great.  I have 2 tiny onsies.  For DD I did the same, just little clothes b/c it's nice to look at.
  • It's totally a personal decision. I don't really feel comfortable buying anything until the 2nd Tri and even then, I most likely won't buy anything but the nursery furniture before the big u/s.

  • Go for it!! Especially since you have a gift card! We were warned by everyone not to buy anything until the second tri, but the day we found out we were pregnant we went right on over to babies r us!! We bought a stuffed animal that day. we have since bought a few other small things. Now we are just waiting to find out the sex so we can really start buying!!
  • I bought a couple of maternity suits from Target for my vacation later this summer, but that's only because they'll be hard to find in a few more weeks. Otherwise, I haven't bought anything baby or maternity-related. I haven't really had the urge yet - probably just subconciously paranoid until I get out of 1st tri. I have started thinking about nursery decor this week, though.
  • I loved my snoogle last pregnancy.  Go for that!

As for other baby stuff, it really depends on your own personal comfort level.  No one can tell you really, whether it's OK.  I do not feel comfortable buying baby stuff this early, but I'm a little superstitious.

  • I don't think it's too early to buy baby stuff. I like to spread out purchases when I know I'll be spending a lot on something - and especially if I find a good deal. (i.e. I bought my wedding dress before I got engaged.) But, I think I'm going to buy a Snoogle before I buy anything for the baby.
