Austin Babies

when do babies move to their own room?

or when did YOU move them to their own room?  The boys are getting WAY too big for their bassinet--they tend to kick each other even through the swaddles (we're using the Kiddapotamous-sp?) and their shoulders are wider so they're really fighting for room in there.  We keep the pnp that has a bassinet in the living room for the day time and the other pnp we have is a hand-me-down w/o a bassinet.  So we're wondering if we should move them to their own cribs soon or if it's too early.

So what did you do?

:)

Re: when do babies move to their own room?

  • Our DD was in her own room and crib from day one.  Her room is right next door to ours and I'm much too light of a sleeper to have her in our room grunting all the time.

It worked out fine for us.

  • We moved DS at about 2.5 months, but I think we're going to try putting #2 in the crib from the start. I couldn't believe how loud DS was when he was sleeping, and I think that I was a lot more sleep deprived than I needed to be for those first few months.

  • it really is a personal preference thing.  My girls were in their cribs from day 1 pretty much.  we just don't sleep well at all with a baby in the room with us, and vice versa.

  • Jakob went to his room around 2 months when he started sleeping through the night.

Layna was in our room until she was almost 6 months old, because she didn't have a room until we moved out of the apt into our house.

  • We moved DD to her crib at 5 weeks at DH's suggestion.  It seemed that none of us were sleeping well but I was so concerned for her not to be in the same room.  But, it was a great decision and we were all better sleepers after the move.
  • We had DS in his crib in his own room from day 1, but w/DD she was in the PNP in the living room until about 2mos, then we moved her to her crib in her room. I think she would have been in her room/crib from day one but it was laziness on our parts since her room is upstairs and newborns are up and down and need to be changed so much.
  • We moved dd out of the bassinet in our room into her crib in her room at 7 weeks. That's also when we started a bedtime routine and putting her down around 7pm. We've all slept much better and longer since.

  • we moved her to her room at 2 months, when the night feedings stopped. and we all slept so much better!
  • we waited until lily was consistently only waking once a night to nurse before moving her to her room so i'd only need to go up to her room upstairs once.  it was around 9 weeks.  she didnt drop all night feedings (7pm-7am) until about 6 months.

dh is ready to move eve to her own room already but i'm not.  we had her in a cosleeper for the first 3 weeks and this week moved her to a pack n play in the corner of the room.  i'm guessing we'll end up moving her around 8-9 weeks as well.

  • About a week after we brought her home from the NICU. She has always been a noisy sleeper, and I'm a very light sleeper. Not a good combo for me!

  • dd#1 we had in her crib from day 1 since she had a bili blanket and it was easier leaving it set up there.

dd#2 (which is our last) we snuggled and co-slept for 2 months then moved her to her crib since she was starting to sleep through the night.

     it really is personal preference.

  • i moved steven when he started sleeping longer stretches at night, about 6 weeks.  i moved him back for growth spurts when he was nursing a lot at night, and he has been in his room permantly since about 4 months.
  • We're moving the PnP to the corner of our room when we move in 3ish weeks. We'll probably do that until July and then move him into his own room. We didn't splurge for a video monitor and I'm totally freaked out about him being down the hall from us. I'm wishing we would've now :( DH thinks I'm silly and being an overprotective mommy, though...I still wake up and check on him several times throughout the night though! (ya know, gotta make sure he's still breathing and all that. *sigh* I think I'm neurotic).

I do the same thing. Embarrassed

We co-slept (which I swore we'd never do) with DS until last week. Now he's in the PNP beside our bed.  He's still up 3 times a night to feed and until he's down to one at night and one around 5 or 6 a.m. he'll be in our room.  His room is upstairs and I don't like the idea of dragging myself up there all night long. Plus he just seems SO little right now to be that far away from mommy.

  • It's definitely a personal thing.?

We coslept full time until 9 months. ?Then I started to put her to bed in her crib but she'd come to bed with me when she woke the first time (usually between 11 - 1 AM). ?Now that she's 16 months she's in her crib for most of the night but I'll bring her to bed with me if she gets up before the dawn cracks. ?

    I miss sleeping with her.?

  • We didn't move Rhett until he was 5 months old, but he was a super quiet sleeper who rarely even moved in his sleep. He never bothered either of us. If he had been noisy then he would have moved a lot earlier because I am a super light sleeper.

  • ugh.  sharing a room with a noisy baby is very disruptive to the little sleep you do get with a newborn!  we did two weeks, after i was feeling recovered from the c-section.  think we'll do the same or sooner this time around.  and i have no idea if there is a correlation, but we never had any issue getting grace to sleep/nap in her crib because she started naps there from day one and then was there for all sleep at two weeks.
