When do you get ready for the day?

I find myself only waking up when DS wakes up, usually around 7:30-8am. ?And I usually run around in pj's. ?I know I need to start getting up earlier so I'm not a mess all day. ?I mean our house is fine, I take care of everyone and everything except myself. ?So when it your "YOU" time so you feel pretty & attractive? ?Do you get up an hour or so earlier than the LO's? ?I hate that I wait until an hour before I'm suppose to leave to get ready... it's stressful.?

Re: When do you get ready for the day?

  • I get up at 6:30 when DS is getting ready for school, and the baby wakes up around the same time.  But I like to workout and nest in the mornings, so I usually don't take a shower until her nap around 11 or 12.

I'm still having a hard time getting the hang of getting ready with my LO. I have to plan everything very carefully! Will this get easier? LOL

  • Wow, I would love if Jude slept past 6:30, lol!

I am an early riser.  I wake up around 5:30, drink my coffee in peace, check email/Nest/etc, and then make breakfast and hang out with DH and Jude.  I shower around 7 - 7:30 and am usually ready (showered, dressed in comfy clothes - I change before we go out, make up/hair. dishes done, vacuuming downstairs done) by 8:30 at the latest!

  • I get up about 45 minutes before ds does and get the coffee going and us ready to go to the gym then I get ready for the day after the gym while he is napping.

  • My answer has changed over the last [almost] 3 years, that's for sure and it all depends on what time Emily wakes up and if DH has to be at the office early because of a meeting or extra work load.

Right now, DH gets up with her to get her changed, dressed and eating breakfast and then, he takes her down to the basement so he can work out (she LOVES to be down there with him!) and I typically wake up and get myself showered, dressed and the diaper bag ready for the day within the next hour or two, by about 9-10am.  Thankfully, DH doesn't go into work until around 10:30am because I am loving the extra sleep!!!  :)

If I don't have his help and I always know before-hand, I set an alarm for 7:00am so I can make sure I have the time to shower, get myself dressed and get the diaper bag all ready to go as I absolutely HATE being rushed for any reason, it makes me so flustered and panicky!   Emily is normally up around 7:45-8:30am every day.

  • I get up when DS gets up - around 7 usually. We are always dressed and ready to go by 8:30 or so. I take a shower first thing (while DH watches DS) and get dressed, then do my make-up while DS eats breakfast. Right after his breakfast I get him dressed and then we go upstairs together and he plays in the master bedroom/bath while I dry and straighten my hair. Then we make the bed together, straighten up from breakfast and any toys, and are out the door.

It took a while to perfect, but we are pretty efficient with our morning routine now.

  • DD never sleeps past 6:00, so there's no way I'd get up before her.  DH and I get up when she does, and one of us changes her diaper and reads a few books with her while the other one makes coffee.  I shower before DH leaves for work and put my makeup on and get dressed when DD wakes up from her morning nap (around 9:30).
  • Before DD was about six months old I used to get up before her to shower and clean bottles from the night before, etc.  She also slept until about 8:00 or 8:30 most mornings.  After about six months, though, it woke her up if I showered while she was sleeping.  She just had to get used to sitting in her vibrating chair while I showered.  Sure, I don't get alone time, but I'd much rather her sleep a bit longer than wake her up unnecessarily.

  • Lately (since PG) I've been sleeping until DD gets up, around 7;30 or 8, most days.  If I have someplace to be, I'll get up early enough to shower and get ready before she does.  But most days we work out in the morning (gym or a walk) so I shower when she goes down for her nap.

  • I get up with DS between 7 and 8. Most days I feed him, change him and stick him in the exersaucer so I can shower. I feel a lot better when I'm made up for the day; it's like one thing I can automatically check off my to-do list.
  • you ladies are good!  i NEVER wake up before DD and don't plan on starting.  i love sleep!  anyway, i don't usually start fixing myself up until noon.  i know, i know...  but the morning hours are spent cleaning and organizing the day (and taking care of DD, obviously).

what a cutie!  i remember when DD was 3 months, i was then able to predict how the day would go.  routine started kicking in then.  yes, it'll get easier!  congrats on baby!

I get ready for the day when DS takes his morning nap.  Other times it might be while he's eating his snack or lunch.

Kids wake up at 5:30 or earlier.  I let DH sleep til 6, then he watches the kids while I take a shower & dress.  He has asked that I be out of the bedroom by 6:40 when he starts getting ready for work. Makeup is applied in the car on the way to where we're going!  Bad, I know!  If I go to the gym, I can shower, dress and make myself up while the kids are in the daycare there.

Best advice (from the flylady) is to get yourself ready first, dressed to the shoes, because you never know what can happen!  This is especially true when you're hosting something at your house.

  • I get up with my DD at 6:30.  DH gets up at 7 and makes himself breakfast and coffee.  While he's eating/drinking, he watches DD and I'll get dressed, put on contacts, brush my hair & do makeup.  It only takes about 10-15 minutes.  I shower at night after DD goes to bed.

  • While I keep telling myself I need to get up at X time to shower and stuff, I typically shower and get ready for the day when DS takes his morning nap.

agree (sans the cleaning and organizing part, haha). ?I'm not getting up until she gets up, and lately I've been napping when she naps too. ?I'm not giving up sleep just to "feel pretty". ?I'm hotter when I'm rested :)?

  • I get up a 1/2 hour to an hour before the boys now but that is only because they started sleeping til about 8am.  I throw clothes on so that I am out of my jammies but I work out at the beginning of their nap (when I do) so I usually shower after my workout during their nap.  I don't really do the make-up thing unless I am going out of the house though.
