Do you think puppies are more work than kids?

After that post below, I started lurking on the pets board. I came across a post where one of the responders said she heard puppies were more work than babies. Link if you're interested- it's toward the bottom. I haven't had a dog since I was a child, but I'm inclined to think that unless you have a dream baby compared to a horrid puppy- the child is going to be more work. Thoughts?

I'm constantly cleaning up after my dog. Although he is not as much work as the baby. Life would be a lot easier with out him.

The dog is a drooly, smelly, messy, slobbering piece of mess.

Anyone who thinks taking care of a puppy is harder than taking care of a baby is a complete idiot. Those are my thoughts.

Anytime I hear this it infuriates me! Yes, I think having a dog is a good trainer for having children in the sense that there is a living being relying on you for survival. It is not just all about you.

However, if your dog acts up you can lock it in the garage. Baby, not so much. No comparison at all in that sense.

Puppies are different. Not harder though. At least that's how I feel about my high maintenance diva and her companion. I have 2 scotties who are notoriously hard to train.?

Actually, I do. I find being with DD second nature. Training the dog, that's another story. DD also slept through the night before the damn dog did, so that might affect my feelinds.

Ditto. Yes puppies are hard work and it's kinda like having a newborn but it's not the same. Child=much harder.

my dogs might have been a handful at first, but nothing compares to a newborn. nothing.

for me, my puppy was more work. i had an admittedly easy baby though. soo....

ETA: and i agree with pp about it's not the same has having a baby in any case.

Yea, I kind of figured if you thought puppies were more work than you didn't actually have kids...but I'm not going to tell her that...maybe she'll find out for herself one day.

This. I feel weird even posting this, but I seriously had more issues with my dog than I did with DD. She's SO laid back, though, so that may be why, and my dog is a lab who is overly hyper and insane. As a puppy, he was a nightmare. An absolute nightmare. Way worse than Anna was as a newborn. That's the truth.

And I'm not saying that babies and puppies are one in the same, so yadda yadda yadda.

yeah, my pup is a border collie/jack russell mix. um...she's a big high strung to say the least! at least she's smart i guess

Yea...that's what I said in the OP- if you have a real easy baby and an extra tough puppy, but in general, babies are more work.

As an adult I've raised two puppies and one baby and the baby was 20X harder.

You can't crate a baby!

I think they are totally different. I can speak from experience since I have 2 dogs both over 3. 1. They don't really learn past a certain point. 2. They don't wear diapers (ok some people put them on their dogs CRAZY) so if they go pee or poop in the house it's on the floor. 3. They are expensive...shots, maintenance. Babies are under our insurance and our cost is less yearly than the amount we spend on shots for our dogs.

Babies are JUST different. Plus I can honestly say I Love my baby way differently than my dogs.

It also depends on the dog/breed.

In a way I can see how that could be.

I mean, our kids eventually grow up - don't need us as much to do everything for them. But a dog ALWAYS needs you to feed, clean, bathe, etc. They don't grow up and become independent. KWIM?

If we're just comparing puppies to babies, then no. I had a puppy - it was a LOT of work but I think babies are way more emotionally-consuming than a puppy.
