It depends on what you put on it and what qty of diapers you buy. I have made a diaper cake for $15 with a $10 pack of Swaddlers, ribbon and fake daisies. I make those for showers that have the diaper raffles. Or I have spent as much as $50 on a diaper cake with a bigger pack of diapers, bibs, toys, burp cloths, onesies, ribbon and cellophane.
The last one I did was with newborn size swaddlers (40 ct). They were $9.99. I also had a bottle, teething ring, diaper cream, little travel size baby items (powder, shampoo, lotion), rubber duck, and a paci. I think that stuff ran me about another $15.00, plus the ribbon was pretty cheap - I got cute thick green polka dot ribbon at walmart for about $2.00. So less than $30.
WOW! I got freakin ripped off! But the one that I got for my sister had a lot of things on it...sleepers, teathing rings, recieving blankets, spoons/fork/knives, lotions, toys, diapers and I think there was more...it was $65.00 for that one!

There are 2 types of diaper cakes. Diaper ONLY cakes which are cheap, they contain various sizes of diapers with the ribbon and flower decorations. Then there are the REAL diaper cakes which contain tons of blankets, onesies, burp cloths, bibs, baby items, shampoos, etc etc tucked into the cake. Obviously these are much more expensive but rightly so. And the majority of these that I've seen are about $100-$150. Diaper only ones can be about $30-50

That sounds about right for a nice diaper cake with lots of cute stuff!?
It depends on what is on it. I have seen some anywhere from $20-$200. This one has so many items on it, that when I looked most of it up, it will cost me $100 to make. That's if I made it myself. I imagine it would cost more if I had to pay someone to do it. I am going to try to make it myself as the shower I am hosting already costs so much.
The pic below is of a diaper cake I made for around $70. It was the first diaper cake Ive made. It was a huge hit at the shower, I got tons of compliments on it. I bought a big box of huggies diapers (over 100 count) from bj's which was under $25. So if you only buy a couple of packs you should be fine and could be cheaper. The rattles, baby hair bows, binkies, baby shoes cost around $30- included in that I went to the travel item aisle at target and got small bottles of baby powder, baby shampoo, baby lotion for 99 cents each.about $10 for ribbon and mini elastics & big elastics to hold the layers together, plus mini dowels to insert through the layers so they don't slide off eachother. Good Luck!
I can be creative, but I don't know if I feel like making my own diaper cake. I did see some cool ones that can be made for us, and I think I will take that route. I actually made our ring bearer pillow for our wedding and was totally impressed that I could be so creative, but it took time, and I kind of feel lazy.

I wouldn't think that they would be hard either. But time, yes! And creativity-yes, which I don't have haha
