  • Mine aren't that old yet but we were just at the Pedi today and she said smaller more frequent meals are better for the little tummies and that since BM changes consistency to meet the requirements of the baby(ies) there is no need to ever really increase amount unless you are decreasing number of feedings.  HTH
  • DS took 3 oz. bottles when he was 3 months old.  He moved to 4 ounces at 4 months old and has been there ever since.

  • mine take 3oz bottles.

I feed on demand. I usually offer around 5, but he's had more in one setting. Last week he downed 6 oz and then 4 more thirty minutes later. My DS is just over 14 lbs and has about 30 - 40 ozs a day. How much does your LO weight?

  • she is was born 4lb 11oz (less than 5th%) and was at 9lb 9oz at her 2 month...i'm thinking she's around 10/11lb now.  she is fed 6 times a day and takes two bottles of my milk while i'm at work.  i gave the sitter extra because she didn't nurse long before i dropped her off and she told me she took 5 oz at both of the feedings fine (no spit up).  so, i am sending 5 oz instead of 4.5...she is eating approx every 4 hours

do you think this amount is good, or could i be over feeding her?

    thx!

  • I don't think 2-5 oz. bottles with her sitter is too much.  I said DS took 3 ounce bottles at 3 months, but he also took 4 of them, for 12 total ounces during my workday.  If your DD is nursing 4 times at home and getting 10 ounces at daycare, I'd say she's doing pretty good.

Just watch her to see how she does, whether she finishes the bottles, acts hungry in between, etc.  It's sort of trial and error for a while until you figure it out.

  • Someone posted this website on here a few days ago:

    https://www.fourfriends.com/cgi-bin/milk.pl

and it tells you about how much bm in a bottle by weight.  Kind of neat!

  • we were good with 3.5-4 oz until a couple weeks ago when he started STTN and going 3-4 hours between feedings in the daytime. Now, a 4oz bottle doesn't seem to fully satisfy him and I end up topping him off at the breast. I'm thinking 4.5 might be good for us right now, but maybe 5 would work too. I haven't had much opportunity to test it as we only give him a bottle every couple days or so.
