2nd Trimester

I'm so upset....has anyone else

failed their first glucose test?

I thought that I've been doing everything right, not over eating, trying to eat healthy for the most part, working out several times a week...yet they called today and said I failed and I have to go back tomorrow for the 3 hour test???

I honestly thought there was some sort of mistake.

My weight gain hasn't been too crazy either...

0 lbs in the first tri...

and so far I've gained about 18 lbs and I'm 27 weeks!!

Help...what am I doing wrong?

Re: I'm so upset....has anyone else

  •  I thought it wasn't always related to weight gain/eating, etc. It's just the way your body responds to being pregnant...don't worry!

  • Nothing. It may have just been what you ate that morning. Its very possible you'll pass the 3 hour test with flying colors. GD isn't necessarily caused by anything in some woman. You can do everything "right" and still have it.

  • You might be doing everything right... and still get GD.  It happens.  Don't stress too much (yeah, I know, easier said than done).  Diabetes is totally managable.

  • I have been told that sometimes there isn't any way to prevent GD.  Some people just get it, no matter what they do.

It looks like you've been very healthy and have done everything you could do.  And you may pass the 3 hour.  It could have been something you ate before you did your 1 hour that is affecting the results.

    Hope everything goes well tomorrow.

  • 1. There are a lot of women who fail the 1hr and pass the 3hr.

    2. There is nothing that you did wrong! Sometimes pregnancy causes your pancreas to go haywire - not your food choices or weight gain. There are lots of women who end up with GD - you're not alone and NOT to blame!

    Good luck!?

  • You're not doing anything wrong.  You can eat right and work out all you want, and it won't change whether or not you develop GB.

Besides, the one hour doesn't diagnose anything. It just shows that you may have it. I've known several people personally (and several on the boards as well) that failed their one hour but was fine with the three hour.  Out of the probably four girls I know personally who failed it, only one had GB.

One of my good friends had GD and she was one of those girls you hate that looked like an absolute rail with a volleyball under her shirt and that was when she was like 9 months in.  She has been a healthy eater her whole life and she was very active.  As others have said, you'll probably do great on your 3 hour test but if you don't, it doesn't mean it is something you've done wrong.

  • You have no control over whether or not you get GD.

  • I was a little heavier anyways,  but, during my entire pregnancy I had been really watching what I ate, been exercising, all of that.  I still ended up with GD.  I felt like I sucked at being pregnant when I found out.  Since I've been monitoring my sugars I see it's nothing that I'm eating out of my norm that was making it go higher.  My only problem sugars are my fasting sugars.  And I've only gained 8 lbs so far.  So, I'm telling you what all the other girls on here with GD told me, if you have it, it's not the end of the world.  My nutritionist was great in really breaking it down for me with my carb counts, etc.  The high-risk board is full of supportive people who are going through the same things you are.  Good luck with the 3 hour!

  • There is nothing you can do to prevent it and no symptoms to watch out for should you have it.  You can fail your one hour and and still pass your 3 hour.

**There are worse things that could happen than having GD.  Think about it!
