Cereal=Fail.. and a ?

I tried oatmeal and rice per my pedi's rec. He did not like either one. So do I wait and try in a couple weeks? Also, what spoons do you use, do you think it has an effect? I use Gerber soft silicone spoons. TIA!

Re: Cereal=Fail.. and a ?

  • I used the same spoons.... when we first tried it it was warm - and that was no good. Now we give her the cereal cold and she can't get enough.

  • I wouldnt' wait a couple weeks.  Try them for a couple days. if he still isn't taking to it, stop for a few days, then try again.

    DS was REALLY turning away from Oatmeal.  He was all over sweet potatoes so I fed him just those for a couple days, then last night tried oatmeal again and he took it down w/ no problem.

  • Same spoons....I started with Rice - and she hated it - warm or cold...switched to oatmeal...I make her formula - and then use some of that to mix the oatmeal up - she ate it right up.

    This is something I'm goign to test out too.  DS gets his bottles cold.  I gave him cold sweet potatoes- couldn't get enough.  And the oatmeal was kind of mixed in w/ it.  I think he may be a cold food eater!

  • It may take several times before your LO knows whether he likes something or not, so I would keep offering the rice or oatmeal for the rest of the week. It took my DS a little time to figure out the spoon, and its a big change for them to get used to eating food from only formula.

  • Try mixing in a TINY bit of banana baby-food in with the rice cereal. It was what we had to do with our son - per our pediatrician's recommendation.  The little bit of sweet flavoring was all it took.

    Remember, they have to get used to the texture, too.  So, keep trying.  Our first few tries were complete failures and then one day he just got it!
