Plus Sized Pregnant Lady

I'm a size 18, so even though many people say they are showing or can feel the tighness...i can't yet :(  My own fault, i know, but I was wondering if anyone has been overweight through a pregnancy before and when you started showing?

I feel tightness when I sit, bend over, raise my leg up to shave...but other than that, the pooch down there is still all me!

Re: Plus Sized Pregnant Lady

  • At 11 weeks, you wouldn't really be showing even if very thin. Some overweight ladies show early, some late and some not at all. Fingers crossed you get a cute bump soon!

  • I'm a 16 and have days where my tummy is firm and days where its nothing. This is my first so I don't have experience but Im guessing I'll start noticing a difference around 2nd tri.

  • I'm the same size and have the same worry. It is still early so there is plenty of time to get a baby bump! I have PCOS and carry a lot of weight in my middle so I especially worry I won't ever look different. We just have to wait and see though I guess. Good luck! :)

I have PCOS as well!  So my lower abdomen area already looked swollen.  I feel like if i truly embraced it, and stuck out my stomach, people would think i was about 7 months!  ha!

  • I am also a size 18...This is what happened when I was pg with DD:  (This will sound crazy!) I had/have 2 bellies, one above the belly button aaaaand one below. God was sooo generous to give me 2! Anyway, the "top" belly became larger, hence, giving me a pregnant belly "look" around 18-20 weeks. Granted, the other belly was large, too! But when I wore a maternity shirt, it was the top belly that "stuck out". It got larger and harder. Around 30 weeks, north and south united! I had one very large belly and the belly button popped out.  I'm sure this sounds crazy, but I was def. "flufy" before I got pg, but you could still see a "bump" around 18-20 weeks.  Hope this helps!!

You just described my current belly PERFECTLY and you've given me hope that I won't look just REALLY FAT come week 40 :)

  • I have been wondering the same thing. I have 2 bellies too. I am hoping because I have a very short torso I will look pregnant quick!

  • So there is hope that my size 20 will look pregnant... I will just have to wait until I am 20 weeks- does this mean I wont have to spend as much on maternity clothes??

  • I am 14 weeks and have been "rounder" for several weeks now (I started at a size 16). What I mean by this is the pooch down below and the bit of a spare tire up above the waist line have rounded out. I am not sure if I am a fan of the look but what are you going to do.

I am waiting for the day that the waist line in between comes out to meet my new rounder parts.

Where I can tell the growth is when I lie on my back and run my hands up around my waist line. It is definatley bigger (I haven't gained a pound) and I can feel the hardness of it.

     Good luck!!!

I'm a 20 also and with DS I think people could tell I was preg around 24 weeks but I was the same as PP with the 2 bellies and the top got bigger first it looked really weird to me. I did start wearing mat clothes pretty early though, I had really bad bloat and it was uncomfortable.

  • PS - I have had many, many lower abdominal surgeries due to endo so I was told I would show like this is my 3rd or 4th kid even though it is my first. That is why I may be "pushing out" earlier.

A women in a post a few weeks ago said she wanted to invent a big girl "wedge" to unite north and south earlier. I thought that was hysterical.

  • I'm a 16-18 too and at 11 weeks, and I've lost 7 pounds since week 4. I'm super bloated and definitely not fitting into my clothes and had to buy maternity clothes last night.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I couldn't find a lot of plus sized selection at the places I went.  Target and Old Navy have just a couple items that get to XL... Motherhood was better, but they only go up to XL and I could only do the XL bottoms that had the full belly panel.

I was commenting to DH last night, as we were shopping... "Seriously, these stores act like I'm the first big girl to get pregnant!".  Seems like there is more options online, but that's a hassle too.  So, hopfully you'll have better luck than I.

  • I had good luck with Motherhood, the outlet store. There are 2 regular Motherhood stores in my area, 1 has plus size, the other doesn't. However, The Motherhood outlet always had a huge selection. Also, JC Penney had a good selection. Hope this helps!!

  • I am a 20-22 and I started showing around week 20 or so.  Just one belly and i had  pregnant belly.  It will happen.  I just wore empire waist shirts, knit pants from LB and maternity clothes from LB (which they have stopped selling ;) )

I always joke with my husband that stores thinks no one wants to have sex with "fat" girls so there is no chance thwy would get knocked up. I was very scared I would find nothing.

I am a size 20 and I found quite a bit at Old Navy online. Their 2xl is huge on me now, but it gives the belly and boobs room to grow. I also found cute maternity jeans (which I was worried about finding in my size) at JC Penney's online. They are a little too are big at the moment, but again, room to grow.

The only thing I am having trouble finding is black work pants that I like. JC Penney's always seems to be out of black when I try and order.

I also got a cute maxi dress in the regular section at Target, it is empire waist and will work well with a belly.

  • It is so encouraging to find you ladies on here! I was beginning to feel the same way. I met up with my aunt for lunch yesterday for the first time since I told her I am pg. She asked me, "Are we starting to show a little?" I said, "No, I'm just fat!" It was slightly disheartening, although I know she meant well by it. I am still in a 16 like I started, but they are definatly tighter and I prefer strechy pants at this point. I can feel it geting harder. Sometimes is is just a little bigger because of my horrible bloat.

But the boobs have def started to grow! I was a 38DD. They are now more perky and I am about to have to by a new bra. I heard they will grow 3 sizes. OMG! I am not goig to be able to carry them around!

  • I started out the same size as you and am 18 weeks and just barely starting to show. I don't even think strangers realize I'm pregnant.
