Baptisms

Is it customary to invite friends and family to a baptism?  Or is it just supposed to be more immediate family?  We are planning ours with a friend of mine who also belongs to my church and her LO is 2 months older than Olivia.  I don't want to invite a ton of people between us but I'm not sure what is customary?  TIA!

Re: Baptisms

  • I am not Catholic so I don?t really know what is the norm. Many in my family are Catholic and I have been invited to my cousin?s children?s baptisms. Also my close friends from college have invited us to their children?s baptisms.

  • We invited our immediate family, and 2 close friends/and spouses (they are Makayla's Godparents). We had a party after wards and invited the rest of our family/friends. Our Church did 5 baptisms on the day we had Makayla's.

  • At first we were planning to have just close friends and immediate family.  Two sets of friends had babies within weeks of us having Ethan.  Both of those friends invited our whole group of friends + relatives to theirs so we are following suit.  We couldn't attend theirs, see that entire group of friends at both of their Christenings, and then not invite them all.  It's turning out to be about 40 people.  I'm glad it worked out this way so that we get to see everyone again and for E's first 'party'.

  • We did not do a baptism, but a dedication and we invited imediate family, extended family, and just a few close friends, but most of our close friends already go to our church. ?We had a party afterwards for just family. ?It was my sisters, parents, grandma, and aunts and uncles, and kyle's family the same. ?Hope that helps!
  • We'll invite family (immediate + great-grandparents) and our closest friends (maybe 3 couples) to the service, then we'll invite extended family and other friends to our house afterward.

  • All of the baptisms we have been to have been not only family but also close friends.  We plan on having both!

Close friends and family. We invited our parents and grandparents and that was it (we are both only children)
