Is this realistic thinking...

I am having my csection on Thursday the 21st, my FI birthday is May 30. He is perfectly fine with staying home and celebrating later. I was just wondering if I would feel ok to go out to dinner 9 days after the cs? TIA

  • You should be ok.

  • I think its different for everyone but I was up and about after about 6 or so days
  • Well you may or you may not...depending on when you leave the hospital and how you heal. Personally I would probably not have gone thinking back on 9 days PP and I had a vaginal delivery but you may be different. I would just be ready for anything

Guessing by how I felt a week after my vaginal delivery, chances are you won't feel up to it. BUT you could very well feel differently. Only you will know the answer to this! :)

  • You may be ok, but you are going to be uncomfortable.  I know there was no way I was going out for dinner 9 days after my c/s.
  • Would you be bringing your LO with you?

  • If you take it slow and it's a quick outing. I think you would be okay.
  • It really depends - everyone heals and feels differently.

I didnt have a c-section but I tore pretty bad and was very sore at 9 days pp. But keep in mind besides being sore, you may not be feeling that well mentally. At 9 days PP I was sleep deprived, crying, trying to figure our breastfeeding, ect.

I would take it day by day, dont plan now. Hope that helps and good luck!

  • I would have been fine with it, I hope your c-section goes well. Good luck!

  • I would not have been up to it.  I mean I could have sat at a table and eaten a dinner ok but getting ready to go out and wearing "normal" clothes was just too much for me at 9 days after my c/s.  I didn't even get out of the hospital until 5 days afterwards.  But everyone is different.  Maybe you will just have to wait and see how you feel afterwards.  Otherwise have a nice evening at home with DH with take out and a movie or something.  Celebrate outside the home later when you feel up to it.
  • Everyone is different, but I was able to go out to dinner on day 6 and then again day 11.  My baby was in the NICU for 12 days though so I had a lot of motivation to be up and moving around so I could be with him. Also after I left the hospital on day 4 I was able to sleep in my own bed without having an infant to take care of overnight for a few days.  I'd say go ahead and make reservations at someplace where you don't have to walk too far but it's likely you'll be able to sit and eat just fine.

  • You will probably be fine, but personally I was way too exhausted 9 days out to consider getting dressed up to go anywhere.

  • As pp's said - everyone is different. I had a vaginal delivery. 9 days pp I would have been up to if physically (still a little sore, but not too bad) but mentally I didn't feel like getting out much. It was hard for me to shower, much less get ready for a dinner.
  • You will probably be fine! I think we went out to dinner (with help from grandparents) about a week after my c section!

  • After a vaginal delivery I didn't feel up to doing anything out of the house until just this week - it was tiring to put on makeup, get dressed, etc..  but everyone is different.

  • Everyone is different.  At 9 days pp, I was back in pre-preg clothes and felt pretty good.  If I over did it I was sore and I was pretty tired, but I would have jumped at the chance to go out to dinner.  At that point, I hadn't been any where but a doctor's office or hospital so even a trip to the grocery store would have been great!
  • I was okay for short outings at that point.  and I'm a total wimp when it comes to pain.  You should be fine!

I had a c-section at 11 pm on a Monday and went out to dinner with the family on Thursday.

I had a c-section and there was no way I could have done it. Mostly b/c of being exhausted and constantly breastfeeding. I did have a rough recovery though.
