timing a single IUI based upon opk

Last week when I was at my consult at AICGB with Tamara, I was told that if I was planning just one insemination in a cycle, I should call the day the opk turns and schedule the insemination for that day. This is different from what ctbride08 was told, so when Tamara called me today to give me my cmv results, I asked again. She repeated what she told me last week. For those of you using AICGB or anywhere else really, what were you told? ?I am concerned because it seems like the sort of thing they would be consistent advising.

Re: timing a single IUI based upon opk

  • We always had the IUI the next day (24 hours after) or later. That seems a tad early but someone on the other board did it the same day and it worked. Any chance of doing back to back IUI's?

  • IF I were to schedule two IUIs for one cycle I was told to schedule one the day it turns, then a second one the next day. I need to decide whether the additional expense of @$620 for the second insemination would be worth it.
  • My opinion $620 for a second IUI = not worth it.  It only raises your chances slightly and even those studies aren't the best.  At least not your first round.  Perhaps later, once you know the swimmers are good and you're ovulating, etc., then perhaps go for the b2b (again, just my opinion).

Your IUI should be the next day.  Or at least 12 hours after the postive opk.  That's just considered best, but of course you'll find people who have gotten pregnant doing each every which way Stick out tongue

  • My partner and I tried to get pregnant for a year this way when we were going to the sperm bank (pac repro) and being inseminated by the nurse practitioner. When it is my turn I will not do it that way again and always advise others the same. What finally got her pregnant was going to an OB who did vaginal ultrasounds to watch for follicular collapse and then she inseminated once she saw proof of ovulation. We spent SO much money trying every month for a year based on positive OPKs. When we used both - the ultrsound and OPK, she wasn't ready to be inseminated until 4 DAYS past her positive OPK. We have friends who had a similar experience as well. Good luck... I know this is such a trying experience.

Congratulations! I'm in my first 2ww.  We go in for our beta next Tuesday (17dpiui).  I feeling really hopeful today, but of course that could change by Tuesday ;-)

  • i know SSG also went through AICGB and did her IUI's the day after the positive OPK (and it worked!).  Did you read through the packet they handed out at the consult? I dont have mine in front of me, but i want to say it explained the timing in there as well.

Worse comes to worse, just call the office tomorrow and ask whoever answer the phone to get clarification.

The packet says to call when the kit turns to schedule the appointment but doesn't say whether they would schedule it that day or the next. ??

  • As ct said.  We did an iui the day after the kit turned.  It worked on the 3rd try.   1st insem we had to go early so we did the insem at 8 am day after the kit turned (Tamara went to the office early on a sat morning for us) =neg. Second insem on a weekday and had to wait until 3 the next day for  the iui=neg.  3rd insem went in at about 10 or 11 for our iui with Tamara =pos.  I am now 23 weeks.  The timing is def very important.  I was pretty sure we were too early on the 1st and too late on the second.  Felt the ovulation pain either before or after  the iui.  For our third I felt the ovulation pain in the parking lot right after the insem.  Good luck

  • Our RE told us to call the day the OPK turned positive and we would inseminate the next day.
