Parenting after a Loss

snacks for the car?

I have an appointment today that is 40 minutes away. DD hates the car and I feel so bad making her ride for that long when she isn't feeling so great to begin with. I think she'll sleep on the way home (praying) but we have to leave pretty much right after her morning nap so there is no way she'll fall asleep on the way there.?

?I'm trying to think of a snack that might work in the car as a little treat. Something that won't make TOO much of a mess. She loves ritz crackers, wagon wheels, puffs, etc. Is there anything that isn't super sticky or crummy and that's easy for her to handle? I can't think of anything.??

  • What about those teething biscuits?  They mostly num on them so they just get a little soggy, but not crumbly.

hmmm...do you know what they are called? We have this one kind that is the MESSIEST thing in the world. I had to take the whole high chair apart to clean it and we had to wash her off in the sink! I swore I would never give one to her again unless she is naked on the beach!?

  • The gerber biscuits are super messy!!! I had to do the same thing when DD ate one.

Do you have one of those mesh feeders? You could put a piece of fruit or something in it for her to chew on.

Hmm, I don't,  There is a little boy, about Avery's age, in the nursery whose mom gives him one after nursing.   She unrwaps it and gives it to him herself, so I've never noticed the name.  It's just a brown rectangle... sorry I can't help more!

  • also...we have this bowl that has like a rubber lid on it with slits, i put puffs in it and DD can reach her hand in and pull them out, but they don't spill out. I forget what it's called, but I got it at walmart. It's made my Munchkin.

I have one of these too -- I think it's called a snack trap. DD hasn't really figured it out yet and the puffs/cheerios just end up all over the car. Maybe I should let her practice some more!

  • It took DD a couple weeks to figure it out, but once she did, she stopped making a mess! Everytime she sees it come out of her diaper bag she gets really excited and bounces up and down. She knows it's puff time :)
  • Truthfully, they tell you not to feed babies in the car because of the risk of choking.  If you absolutely HAVE to, then I might consider a puff that melts pretty easily.
