Buying baby stuff pre-pregnancy will jinx you?

Do you really think you are that powerful??? LOL.

But really, I can see that it is painful emotionally to have baby stuff in a home where you are having trouble conceiving. But honestly no one on these boards anyway, has the power to jonx anything!

    I don't think that. I just think it's weird. It's like buying a steering wheel cover before you even have your driver's license. Horse before the cart....

    haha... the only way you can jinx yourself into not getting pregnant is by not having sex.  Parking in the "for new and expectant mothers" spot and buying baby items will not make God say "thats it! no baby for you!" LOL

    I agree I don't think we can jinx ourselves by buying anything, but I did like the point to save the fun for after BFP.

    This. I just have no desire to buy any baby related items until I am KU and in 2nd Tri. 

    Lapband wife wanting a baby since 2008. 162lbs lost...30 more to go.

    Everyone is different...it is just like pouring salt into my wounds. I already know that I am reproductively challenged, so I choose to wait until I know I am KU for sure.

    We held off with both pregnancies because of this very reason. I knew that I could not jinx myself, but do you really want to come home to a room of baby stuff when your arms are empty day after day? 

    There were just some women in a previous post who thought that that would jinx things, or tempt fate!

    Ditto. I don't think it jinxs anything. I just would not want baby stuff in the house before I was KU. Talk about a constant reminder.

    hahaha..me too :) I know that someday when i am KU or have a new baby i'll see some biitch park in the spot and i'll have to laugh because i do it now.

    I've only done it once and I wasn't the one driving and we had a baby w/ us. What was funny to me though is that as we were getting back into the car some lady VERY loudly pointed to me and said "She doesn't even look old enough to be pregnant!" Hahaha if they only knew that I had a 10 yr old at home.

    I have never purchased one baby item prior to being pg. I just can't handle seeing it. Even now the only baby items I have are bedding because it was on sale and stuff gpers and bfpb have sent. I won't buy anything else until my 20 week u/s and they tell me everything is okay

    I seem to be in the minority here. Embarrassed  I have actually bought quite a bit, usually only on a really good sale or as hand me downs from friends, and most of it gender neutral. 

    Does it make me a little sad to see the baby stuff with no baby?  Yeah, a little, and some days a lot.  But I guess for me it's more about hope and faith.  Which probably sounds idiotic to some, but that's how I feel.  I am hopeful that we will conceive, and have faith that it will happen one way or another.  In my mind, I'm preparing for the future.  It doesn't help that I have great difficulty passing up clearance racks, either. WinkEmbarrassed

    for me, it's all about getting a bargain.  i have a few cute books and some toys that i've found on amazing deals and i'm such a sucker for clearance stuff that it fits right in with my personality.  i don't think it will jinx me - i love knowing i'll have to buy less when the time comes.  additionally, i can always just convert them into toys for work if i feel i need to get rid of them in the future.  i wouldn't go so far as to buy pacifiers or onesies until i'm sufficiently pregnant, though.  that crosses into an obsessive region i'd rather not visit :)

    I haven't bough anything pre-pg but if a friend had a load of baby clothes that she was going to give away I would definitely take it! I could always donate afterwards if the clothes were for a boy or girl. and i don't think that is idiotic that you feel that way at all.

    I have enough crap to start decorating a nursery. Though I'm not as hopeful as I once was and have stopped buying stuff for future baby the last few months. I don't think its sad at all

    I bought my stroller 3 months before I got my BFP.  I'm glad that I got the stroller I wanted at a decent price and I don't have to worry about it later.  I don't think it is a bad thing, and  I guess I didn't jinx myself.

    I totally agree with you.  To me it just seems like I'm making the financial part of this a little easier by spacing stuff out and getting great bargains!  As long as I have somewhere to store it, I will keep snatching up the bargains and keep hoping for another LO.

    I don't think it's a jinx, and ladies who can do that is awesome! Head start and all - but it isn't for me. I really don't want to do too much shopping until I know the sex of my baby

    I also have more baby stuff than I should, much more. Embarrassed  But DH hasn't banned me from shopping yet, and simply shakes his head (and gives me a kiss) when he sees the baby stuff stash. 

    And now that my sister is pg again, I can keep things for her. I'm pretty sure she's not going to buy anything until their m/c chance is way down.  So I'll have some stuff to surprise her with down the road. Big Smile

    I actually work on the principal of "it's a waste of money if we odn't end up getting pregnant".

    Baby things will go on special again. there will always be hundreds of gorgrous baby items one could buy....so I just don't really get it.

    Although I'm not all that clucky.?

    I have a good amount of things put aside that ive bought on clearance and some things that I thought were just too cute too pass up. I don't see it as a big deal. more so as a "hope" chest of sorts.

    Although, I will say I showed my mom a crib that DH and I love and she offered on the spot to go buy it.(she is dying to be a first time grandma)We politely declined. That I thought was going too far without a bfp. buying onesies and little stuff isn't a big deal for me. To each his own I guess
