How old were you when....

You first started babysitting? What were the circumstances?

 

I was around 13 and I babysat my two nephews. I did a dang good job and went on to nanny when I was 18 for a set of twins.

    At 12 I started babysitting kids from my church or the neighborhood.  No infants, mainly just one or two kids at a time who were around 4-8 yrs. old.  I got paid $2 to $3 an hour too, ugh!

    11 in the church nursery under supervision. Alone a 6 week old on NYE at 13. I nannied at 18 3 girls ages 5 (the 6w old when I started), 3 and NB (I was there when she was born.

    I was 13 and babysat the babies during church camp during the summer. Then I babysat for a lady across the street, she had two rambunctious boys who did not mind at all. She said she would be home around 10pm and didn't come home until 2am! AND she only paid me $6 because she spent the rest at a bar. She was klassy. Needless to say, I didn't babysit her kids again!

    I was probably 10 when I started watching my little brother. When I was 10-13 I babysat for neighbors. When my little sister was born when I was 16 I watched her all the time, she was like my baby and I took her everywhere.

    I was 13 when I first started.  Two boys (ages 2 and 5).  When I was 14, I started babysitting exclusively for a family: two boys (ages 2 and 4) and one girl (4 months).  I sat for them all throughout high school and when I was home on college breaks.

    12.  I babysat for about 15 families in the area and financed the purchase of an expensive Italian bike (to get to and from said babysitting jobs) with the $$ I'd make.

    When I was 13/14 I actually babysat for a 2 week old baby (a family who I worked for all the time had a newborn).  I couldn't imagine leaving my newborn with a teenager right now.

    I nannied throughout college for a variety of families, and then went on to work as a nanny full time for 5 years.  Now I teach preschool.
