Success after IF

pronouncing names

Okay help me out here. I'm pretty good with English and tend to be critical with name spellings vs how they are spoken. However this one has me stumped.

How would you spell Anna/Ana/Aana/Annah if you wanted it to sound like "Auna" or "Awna" as opposed to rhyming with banana?

(I know. Stupid question, but I want to know.) Cool

  • From the above, the only one I would pronounce that way is Ana. What about spelling it Auna?

No clue! I think its confusing.....

I did have a sorority sister who went by "Awna" and her name was spelled Ana. I don't really think there is a spelling that you could use unless you used Awna........

Her name was mispronounced all.the.time and she always complained about how when she was young no one ever got it right :(

  • lol okay so I'm not the only one. :)

What about Ahna. Does that look stupid? Kind of does, doesn't it??

argh. We had such a hard time with naming Katen that maybe this one will just be baby girl "Reem." ....although that's not a name that grows well with a kid.

  • I read "Ana" as "ah-na" or "on-a", and read "Anna" as rhyming with banana.

  • Going with the example of "Shawna" and the use of "Sean"

    Eana

    lol

    sorry

Auna looks better than Awna IMO

  • friends of my parents named their daughter Hannah...but pronounced with a long "a"...so it sounds like haaaaannah. They spell it the same, just pronounce it differently.
    Wife. MoM {1G + BBG triplets}. DIY'er. Quilter.

  • All those, I would pronouce Ana.

Auna I would pronouce like "Awna".

  • I like the Ahna spelling best out of Ahna, Auna and Awna.
  • How about Aanna?

  • My friend whose name is pronounced that way spells it Aunna. All of the other spellings (Ahna, Awna, etc.) looks plain silly to me. If it were me, I would just spell it Anna and correct people. Stick out tongue

I was going to say the same thing! Ana, to me, has always been said how you are wanting.
