So... I have been having problems w/ my blood pressure and have posted on here about my boss before (how he has no tact- confronted me about pregnancy infront of a coworker, asked specific details about my plans for the fall and going back to work w/ a baby, what my specific health status is- like bp #s and such) this is just to say the least of what he has done to me...
I have been in and out of the hospital 3x so far for various reasons (leaking fluid, back spasms, etc)... and have kept my manager informed since i havent seen my boss...
well today, i finally see him and let him know that i am stopping work early...May 29th willl be my last day (i will be gone from here June-Oct cause of maternity leave) - i have a doc's note and all-
i am not under contract of any type and am not protected in any way....so reg laws dont apply to me since i am paid via grant funding...
so today, as i am telling him that i will be leaving early- he gives me the story about how his wife had similiar issues (which he knows because he was VERY nosey about my health and i was stupid enough to keep him informed)...so here's the kicker...
he can't keep my position for me... so as of May 29th...i am jobless!
gotta love it.
Re: Whoa...so jobless after May 29th
What a douche! Seriously, you'd think he'd have some empathy for someone going through what his wife did. At least he won't be your boss anymore, right?
what a doossshhhh... i'm sorry. gl w/ everything!
yea it's kinda sad that i was half smirking inside thinking that i wont have to come back to this hell hole...but at the same time, now i am freaking that i seriously won't have a job in the fall!
just wat i need to be doing on my "maternity leave" is stressing out to find a job! wont have much time to enjoy the baby!
but life goes on i guess! or as my boss simply put it, "it's a part of life...." (no joke)...
That's sooo not right!
Ugh - I'm so sorry! Like pp said, at least he won't be your boss any more.
I also work in a grant funded position - and I just found out that the PI that I work under is going to move across the country to a different institution while I'm on maternity leave. While I'm happy for her (it's a big step up), it sucks for me. I carry the health insurance for our whole family, so I don't know what we're going to do.
Well, I guess we'll both be job hunting on maternity leave!
That totally sucks!!!
Did you ever get your insurance issues taken care of with them? If at all possible, try to do so before you leave.
I wish I had better advice and just hope you're OK, financially, after all this crapola.

wow - although its good to know that i am not the only one...that def sucks! it's horrible timing! i am sorry that you have to deal w/ this too... sorry about the insurance thing...that's one thing i dont have to deal with because i am also in grad school so my insurance is actually under my grad school not thru work (they didn't offer insurance w/ their funding employees)...
yes we both will be job hunting unfortunately~ GL to you!
they were making me wait 90 days before making me a gov't employee since they screwed up on my application~ so i had to suffer apparently....
but luckily i do have health insurance as i am in grad school and get it thru them (unfortunately i am paying 3k a year for it (when baby gets here it will be 5k and if i were to add dh it will be 7k)...and it gets lumped in with my tuition and i have to pay that back!)...
Umm I am going through the same thing!!!!!!!! It sucks.. my doctor took me out of work because I keep passing out and my company boss is trying to find a reason to fire me so that I won't get disability... and on top of that they canceled my health insurance!!! Thank god my finance and I were already planning on getting married in two weeks so I can go on his insurance! It sucks... and not knowing what to do after the baby arrives freaks me out!!!!
What the hell is up with company's thinking they can do this stupid stuff! Good luck with everything!
