What did you swear you'd never do as a parent...until your DC actually came along? Why did you think you wouldn't? What made you change your mind/give in?
I find myself here gearing up for parenthood and having all these ideas about the things I will and won't do and how it'll make me such a cool mom...but I'm curious how much of that usually gets thrown the window in the end...
Re: POLL: I swore I'd never...
Let him sleep in bed with me.
"OMG, how horrible." Yeah, I realized I didn't know what horrible was until I went 3 days without sleep b/c L wouldn't sleep a wink anywhere but with us.
Live with my inlaws - yep, did it while we were building our house. It was the best ever.
Take DD out with her hair or face a mess. It is so much harder now that she has long hair and it never looks good after a nap.
I swore I would never say never.
Until you actually have a child, you can't predict how you will react to any situation.
And as for being 'the cool mom', I am their parent, not their friend. I can guarantee there will be many times that I am not cool, but I don't particularly care.
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
i ditto the co-sleeping thing. we didn't have any problems when she was a baby but when she uses pathetic phrases like, 'mama get me outta here' and i have to work the next day ... she's sleeping soundly between us.
i thought i would never breastfeed but i did.
paci - did it too.
and the funny thing - she now sleeps in her own bed, i survived bf'ing just fine and she no longer takes a paci. it's rarely the things we worry about that really matter in the long run.
