Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When (if you do) did you start taking your kiddos to parks?

Mister King Sammy is so bored with the toys he's got, and I don't really have space for MORE. My mom suggested taking him to a park to play on the swings and slides (ummm maybe not the slides just yet, he'd try to fly over the side, I know it lol) but I dunno how weird that'd look. Hell, I don't even know where a park is around here, aside from the State Park, but that's obviously got no toys for kids. I guess Niagara Falls could count as one hell of a water slide? Hee hee.

For those of you who do go to playgrounds, do your younger ones like it? If there's a consensus that he'd get a kick out of it, I'll start looking for the damn things pronto. He's driving me crazy with his whining at his toys! :(

  • I've been taking her since she was teeny tiny, but I work at an in-home daycare. She started actually enjoying it around six months because of the swings. Now she crawls around everywhere and tries to conquer the stairs of the playground equipment (obviously I'm right behind her or holding her hand). She would spend the whole day at the park if I'd let her.?

  • charlie *loves* the park! we go twice a week and meet up with some other mommies.  we walk around first, with him in the stroller and then play on the playground.  he likes the baby swing and i'll go down slides with him.  he also loves to try and stand on the different levels and see things from different heights.  if i go and sit on the playground equipment he will play for a long time (the other day it was an HOUR) before he is ready for something new.  sometimes i put a blanket on the ground and sit down so he can practice crawling on different surfaces.  i don't even put shoes on him because touch is how babies learn and i want him to learn about all the different textures on the playground.  i also bring some toys from home to play with on the blanket that i lay out. oh, and bubbles.

yepp, he definately LOVES the park!

  • Ohh good news. :) I didn't know if 6/7 months was too early or what. It'd be nice to see other babies around. He's only met two so far! Poor guy, so unsocial.
  • we did around 7 months-i'd have gone sooner but it wasn't warm enough. DS loves watching the older kids, swinging w/me and going down the slides (I hold him & slide him down).
  • Sasha loves going to the park too! She absolutely loves the swings, she'd stay in there for hours if I'd let her. I don't think 6 is too young for the park, that's when we started going to the playground too (it was a bit too cold before then). Have fun!
  • The first time I took DS he was 5mos, it was a little too chilly for him to enjoy it that time, but I've gone several times since and he just chills out in the baby swing and for the slide I just put him on the smaller slides and guide him down with my hands on him.
