Thanks for the firsthand advice. They re still spitting up but not as much as the beginning ( both have acid reflux). How much spit up do you think is :ok" to try to change to reg. formula? Also dumb question...is regular formula more filling since the protiens are not broken down, etc??
I really appreciate it. I am just super nervous.
Re: teacherjess
Well, I first switched Leah around 2 months. She would spit up after each feeding, and would fuss at the bottle and right after eating. Once we switched, we'd burp her after each feeding and she'd still spit up, but it would just be once and it would be a little more solid. Then she'd be done spitting up until her next filling.
I would say if it seems like they are spitting up a lot (like soaking bibs, which is what Leah would do on a bad day) or just really often, you could look into switching. Gentlease is just as filling, as far as I can tell, and has just as many calories per scoop as regular formula. Like I said, we had no problem transitioning back and forth and our pedi was fine with us switching and even using generic (Gentlease and Similac Sensitive are both about $2 more/can than regular).
Some girls on 0-6 also swore by GoodStart Natural Cultures for fussiness and spit-up, but we never tried it just because my coupons were for Enfamil.
I should add we also used Mylicon drops and sometimes gripe water if she seemed particularly fussy.
If they don't improve on Gentlease, you can go one step further and try soy formula, and if that doesn't seem to help, the next step would probably be something like Alimentum for milk and soy protein intolerance. But if they are just a little fussy, I'd try Gentlease first and give it a week or so.
Good luck!
Yeah we switched to Gentle ease at 1 month because of the same issues leah had. And they have been less fussy, gassy, etc. over the last 3 months of them being on the GentleEase and was thinking about making the switch back to regular but do not want to go thru heck (us or the twins). This $25.00 a day in formula is ridiculous but I want them to "feel good" also.
So I guess we will just try the regular formula and see how it goes. I am praying hard they do good.
I hope you and Leah are doing great!! Thanks again.
Yeah, duh, I answered your post like you were wanting to switch to Gentlease. I basically ignored the first post, lol.
Anyway, I'd say to go ahead and try to go back to the regular formula. Like I said, I don't think there is much of a different in how filling it is. You'll know pretty quickly if they aren't up for the change yet, but hopefully they are.
