Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone planning on buying used furniture?

I have spent some time looking online, but have also decided to check out 2 really nice 2nd hand baby furniture stores in our area.  I'd like to get white either way, so I may also post on Craig's list.

Anyone else considering buying used? I just feel like I would rather put that money away for college or items that our child will use a lot longer.

  • I'm not really sure yet, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

  • Yesterday was community garage sale day in my parents community... I got a crib with a mattress for 15.00!!!!!!!!!! The lady said that is had been in her garage for a year and it needed a good cleaning , but her daughter hardly used it!!! It is really nice and I can't wait to put it all together :)   We were planning on buying new, but this lady just wanted it out of her garage so she practically let me have it for free!
  • I am getting my crib from my sister. She used it for her two boys (3 and 2). I am going to buy the other stuff from babiesRus, so I can have matching stuff.

As long as the crib hasn't been recalled and it looks fine, I wouldn't worry.

I'm all about hand-me-downs and yard sales for a bunch of stuff.  For the crib we are going to buy new, Baby Bargins put a good scare in me on that one.

We got out furniture from dh's coworker. I see nothing wrong with it and it let me go crazy buying the glider and ottoman I wanted. We did get a new mattress for the crib through.

  • I don't see anything wrong with buying dresser that is used, however, I personally would not use a used crib...unless it came from family or a friend. I would worry about safety issues. You never know if it could have a recall, etc. I am a germ freak too so that would probably bother me. I definitely would not use a used mattress for myself so I would esp. not use one for the baby.

  • I bought a beautiful, very high quality, incredibly comfortable glider at a yard sale yesterady for $9, and it included the ottoman. I'm going to re-finish and re-upholster it. You can't buy a quality piece like that new without spending a fortune. I'm not too proud to buy used!!!!

The only new thing I have for the baby is the crib, and that is because Gma and Gpa insisted on buying it for baby. Everything else, (dresser, glider chair, changing table, etc.) are either hand me downs or bought used. No point in buying new things  when I get can much higher quality things for a lot less when buying used.

Yes, we'll definitely be hitting yard sales this summer. We already scored a really nice changing table at Goodwill for $15 (last time I was pg). Having new things really does not matter to me that much.
