I had an ultrasound down at 5 weeks 2 days. ?Calculating by my last period, I should be 6 weeks 2 days. ?Doctor explained that women do not all ovulate at the same interval. ?The ultrasound only showed the yolk sac. ?Is this normal? ?I'm a little worried because the doctor had me do another blood test 2 days later on a Saturday (today). ?Anyone else have this experience before?

Woman ovulate at different times, your doctor is right about that. That is why I don't understand why they use LMP when someone could have ovulated on day 24 putting them later. I think they should all do a dating u/s at some point in the first tri to be sure. I knew when I ovulated since I charted, and adjusted my LMP accordingly when I called the doctor.
I had an u/s at 5w 3d after some spotting and we saw only a gestational sac, and something that was so small it could have been the yolk sac. I had another 6 days later and we had a fetal pole and a heartbeat. Just after 5 weeks it's hard to see much of anything. did they mention doing a follow up u/s in a week or so?
I had an ultrasound at 5w4d (I know when I ovulated) and it showed a 5w sac with a yolk. I had another one at 8w2d and everything looked good.
Same thing happened to me. I went in at 5w6d baby and we saw a gestational sac and yolk sac that measured 4w. Went back in about 10 days later and the baby was there measuring 7w2d with a heartbeat of 159.
If you are unable to visualize the fetus to get a crown to rump measurement then it is really hard to determine how far along you are. It sounds like everything you saw was perfectly normal. Hang in there, but I know firsthand how stressful it can be. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
