Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How do you make an 8oz bottle of formula?

If you put 8 oz of water & then 4 scoops...you almost overflow the bottle. I'm so confused. I'm working on weaning so this is new to me.

  • Hmm ... I use Gerber Nuk 10 ozbottles so even when filling to 8 oz line with water and then adding 4 scoops of formula there is still plenty of room.
    Wheee!

  • Some bottles aren't big enough to hold "8 oz" of powder formula (which really translates to more than 9 oz).  Drop-ins have 10 oz liners that you can buy which will hold the full 8 oz.  You may have to switch bottles.
  • Put 8 oz of water and 4 scoops of formula into another container, shake and then pour into the bottle.
  • We make a full batch of formula per the instructions on the container than pour that into 8 oz. bottles.

That's how we do it, too. I use the liquid concentrate formula, and just make a day's worth of it in a pitcher, pour our 8oz bottles and any extra in the pitcher goes into the fridge and we use that for making her cereal etc.

That's what we usually do. I make the day's worth for him at once, 5 bottles. I use a rubbermaid liquid container that has measurements up the side and pour what I need into the bottles.

I use Drop Ins and the Playtex expandables work great for when we're traveling and I don't want it mixed until he needs it. Then you can pour the water in and take the powder separately. It gives you enough room for mixing. You need to use the nurser bottles, though because the liners can expand in them giving you more room.

  • If you use 8oz of water and 4 scoops, you really end up with 8.8oz of formula which is why you are overflowing. We mix 10oz at a time, and then pour what we need into his bottle for feeding and save the rest for next time.
