Many of you are from ssh, but now the community is expanding. ?Anyone care to introduce themselves?
?************
I am BGG. ?BOTB has been my primary board. ?I will be a single mother by choice and did not arrive at that decision without unease.?I will be starting inseminations with an anonymous donor this summer at AICGB and am now using the cbefm, taking prenatals, etc. ?
Thirty three years old, legally divorced last year from my wife. ?I own my own law practice and am extremely active with the gay bar association. ?I will move closer to my parents once I am pregnant because they are offering full time daycare and co-parent-esque support as needed.?
Re: Intros - a bit about you?!
FYI - The first post on this board has introductions.
My wife and I are in our first 2ww - 5dpiui right now and it's killing me. We choose an annoymous donor. We aren't telling family about this journey until we get our BFP (mostly b/c we don't live near them) so I like sharing my thoughts and news here.
I started posting on TTTC but will probably post here more often. We'll see.
Oops. ?I read a bunch of them but must not have read that one. ??

Maybe your post will bring out other new posters :-)

AICGB --- I had my consult on Monday! ?I saw Tamara.
I was going in for my pap then thought they would have a separate consult visit, but we did a two in one. ?So it was $164 and now I am all set. I will get my blood type and my cmv status today.
She was recommending I get opks instead of the cbefm so I just bought some.

Did you have an IUI this morning?! Are you doing one or two inseminations each cycle? Who did you see? ?Are you using an anonymous donor? ?Where did you purchase him? Are you using opks or cbefm? ?I would love to hear about your plan as I am just now forming mine!?
http://oi62.tinypic.com/2w73hq9.jpg
Well, we were scheduled for an IUI but ended up with an ICI due to paperwork issues. This was our first month trying and we went with one insem, although we would have done two if one of them had fallen on a weekend (and we might try two either way next month if this month doesnt work out). Our appointment today and our initial consult were both with Megan MacInnes. We are using anonymous donor sperm from Midwest in chicago. We used digital OPKs (clear blue easy) after trying cheapies for a month and going crazy trying to figure out if it was positive or not.
::whew:: and I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have!

?
oooohhhh! ?Good luck! ?That is so exciting! ?The tww begins! ?
You may regret saying that you are open to questions. Did you schedule it today or yesterday? ?Is this your second cycle??What sort of paperwork issues did you have? ?Was the difficulty with Midwest or AICGB - related to washing? What qualities were the most important to you in selecting a donor?
I am very excited for you! ?
http://oi62.tinypic.com/2w73hq9.jpg
thanks!
- We got our positive OPK yesterday so I called and scheduled the appointment yesterday. If the kit turns on a weekend, you call the day you want to have the IUI (generally the day after your positive opk). If you do 2 insems in one month, then you would call the day your kit changes and schedule an IUI for that day and the next.
- this is our first cycle for insems, but we've been temping/charting/opk-ing for a few months to get a feel for DW's cycles
- the paperwork issue was simply that the sperm delivered to AICGB from midwest did not specifically indicate that it was washed. And due to the time difference, midwest wasn't open to fax over the documentation needed. So, we just went ahead with an ICI....statistically speaking it only lowered our chances of conception by a percentage or two. so it really wasnt a big deal.
- we've been really happy with both midwest and AICGB - no difficulties with either. the paperwork thing was kind of a fluke issue.
- the only qualities we were looking for in our donor were: healthy (including CMV negative), reported pregnancies/high post-thaw mobility, and good family history health-wise. I did keep a special eye on redheaded donors, but flexed a bit on that (our donor had red hair as a babe but no longer). Honestly? it took us 10-15 minutes to select a donor...healthy, and could get a girl PG were our main concern.

Oh, I appreciate the clarification. ?I was a bit of a nervous spaz when I was there and I?thought I was supposed to schedule the insemination the day the opk is positive. I must have misheard. ?Thank you!?
I have looked at Midwest, but only requested two profiles (304 and 305). ?I wish they had a searchable donor catalog.
I love red heads too! One of my difficulties is that my favorite donor is from NECC which is such an expensive bank. ?Frustrating.?
I am very excited for you!?

You may have heard back already, but 305 is no longer available. it drives me nuts that they dont take him off the online donor list.

I know! ?Which is frustrating because his stats were great! ?

Well, sh!t. I had 305 on our list too
Too funny that we were all looking at him! Guess I'll be crossing him off our list. They should keep that list updated...
My wife is a redhead, so we're primarily looking at redheaded donors.
BGG - Have you had your consultation at AICGB yet? Because they'll be able to answer all your questions and then some! I go there for my regular gyne care and really like it. I've also seen Megan (who is the founder of AICGB - and, as a side note, "family"), and she is great.

?
Yes, as I mentioned above, I had my consult Monday. ?My questions are mostly about whether people are doing one insemination or two, or about donors, so they weren't answered by the consult.?
I think it is a riot that three of us want redheads. ?I actually ordered a genetic test to determine how likely it would be for me to have a red haired child. ?Unfortunately, the answer is not likely (myredhairgene.com).
They put the donors on the list after they do the initial testing. ?305 hasn't come back in for the six month HIV test. ?If he struts in, they will do the test and he can be part f the program again. I became a member of spermcenter.com to help me see all the donors with accredited banks throughout the country.?

Got it. So maybe hope is not lost for him
It is hilarious that we all want red-headed sperm. We also want someone with ID release - that limits us to about 5 nationwide (or at least all the banks I know of)!

I know of it, but haven't looked into it much or joined. I kind of like having the choices limited to make the decision easier. Otherwise I'll probably start obsessing over little details about them that really don't matter. We'll see - maybe the lure of more open-ID redheads will tempt me, and I'll join...

You found almost all of them, only six nationally according to Spermcenter. ?I sent you a private message with their banks and donor numbers.?

Oh thanks. I appreciate that.
sahm ~ toddler breastfeeder ~ cloth diaperer ~ baby wearer
Yea, BGG pm'd me the redheads, and I had already found them all
I'm all good with only having a few choices at this point. Thanks for the tip though!
