Birth control pill/TTC questions...

Let me first say I'm freaking out that I'm even posting a question on this board! Aaahhh!! :)Anyway...for those of you who were on the pill before TTC, how long had you been off it when you got pregnant??Did you start trying right after going off it or did you wait awhile?I am planning on going off it next month and then TTC in the late summer/early fall (and just using condoms in the meantime). My Dr. said it takes around 3 months for the effects to wear off, but I know that's different with everyone.I'm just curious. Right now, we're just planning on taking the "whatever/whenever it happens, happens" approach.?

  • I posted a response on the Nestie board. Smile How exciting!!

  • my husband and I also went with the whatever happens is going to happen route.  I think that my experience is somewhat different from what most people experience based on what most doctors say, but I went off the pill and got pregnant 2 weeks later.  I really didn't think that could happen, but it did so if you don't want to be pregnant until late summer or early fall, use precautions.
  • We also planned to go off the pill and "see what happens".  Well what happened was I got pregnant that same month, about 2 weeks later!  So for us it happened right away.  My OB said that the first 3 months after stopping the pill, you are actually more fertile and have an increased chance of having multiples.  (we're only having one, however ;)

So I would say, based on my experience- it CAN happen right away, even if you aren't "trying"!

    GL and HTH!!!

  • Like the other posters, I went off BCP when trying to get pregnant with my son and had my BFP that month.  I have heard the first month you can be very fertile.  This time around was different though.  I had the Mirena IUD in (personally would NOT suggest) and it took 4 months to get pregnant and then had 2 miscarriages.  Finally successful 9 months after getting IUD removed.  Good luck :-)
  • I got pg 3 months after stopping the pill.  my sister got pg 1 month after stopping the pill.  Good luck.

  • Like pp's- we also did the "whatever happens, happens" and ended up with a BFP two weeks later:)  So first month off for us as well- and I had been on BP for a long, long time (like 10 years-ish).  No problems whatsoever so far!
  • With both my pregnancies it took 4 months after getting off the pill to get pregnant.
  • My RE said your most fertile times are the first 3-4 months you are off the pill believe it or not.  Not a big fan of birth control at the moment...lol.  Expecting #3, conceived while ON BC patches.

    Good Luck!

  • I went off the BCP in early April.  According to fertility friend.com and my temps I ovulated the first cycle after birth control!

  • lol, that was my plan too.  I had been on the pill for 10 years anf thought it would take my body a long time to get back to "normal".  So I was married in December, went off the pill in January, and got my bfp in March.  So it only took me 2 cycles.
