Austin Babies

Well crap - bedrest for real!

I just got back from my ob appointment.  I'm still 25% effaced but I'm now also 1 cm dilated and my blood pressure has my doc worried.  It's 128/86, which for me is pretty high.  They don't really worry until it's at 140/90 so I'm still under that and there are no proteins in my pee, but my doc thinks I might be preeclamptic by next week.

She wants me to come back in tomorrow to see a colleague for a second opinion & take a fetal fibronectin test to make sure I'm not in preterm labor.  If the test comes back negative, it means we're probably safe for the next week or two.  If it comes back positive, it doesn't necessarily mean I'm in preterm labor, but they'll put me on steroids to get the boys' lungs more mature just in case. He'll also check my cervix & if there's any change, it'll mean I'm likely to be admitted straight into the hospital!  She told me not to worry about that possibility too much, but it's still freaking me out a bit.

If the babies can hold on until 34 weeks (Monday), they'll still need to spend some time in the NICU, but chances are better that they won't need help breathing.  They'll just be there for feeding and growth, which would make mama feel so much better.  If all is well on Friday, I go back again on Monday to see my ob.  In the meantime, I'm getting DH to pack my bag & put it in the car.  Yikes!  So not ready...

so do it. bedrest it up. stay on your left side. only get up to pee or get something to eat/ water.

    need some magazines?

ETA: I hope that didn't sound jerky. It was supposed to be a pep talk.

Seriously, though, I only made it for two weeks on bed rest and I think that's because I didn't take it seriously. Take it seriously.

  • Oh no!  This is your que to take it easy.  I had those tests weekly with Teagan due to my history and I can tell you it gave me a lot of peace of mind to know that I was good for about a week.  I hope everything goes well and that your bp comes down!
  • That stinks. Hopefully you can keep them in for a few more weeks. ***no pre-term labor dust***
  • I'd be nervous too!  Boys - stay in your mom a little longer, it's nice in there!

Rest up and relax while you can...if you can get comfortable I suppose.  Need a DS or anything to keep you busy?  I can get one to you to borrow for a while, I don't have a lot of games though.

  • Ah! oh no!! get some rest!

maybe it was just a bp fluke. i know one week i went in and my bp was elevated because i had been running late and was stressed to make it to my appointment around 36 weeks. of course all the nurses and my dr. freaked out and made me get monitored. I had no proteins in my pee either. my bp never got high again for the rest of my pg, but they had to take precautions just in case. even when i delivered they made the nurses check my bp more often than normal because of the one freak high bp.

anyway, long story, but i hope it was just a fluke. let me know if you need anything! food, entertainment, help getting stuff ready, whatever...

  • Oh my!  Get some rest girl!  Think of it this way: pretty soon and for the rest of your life you will be caring for those two little boys and waiting on them hand and foot.  So take this time to let DH pamper you and wait on you hand and foot until then.  Take full advantage of this time and enjoy it.  Think of it as making up for all the sleep that you are going to loose once those little guys get here!  Hang in there, your time is almost here!  Sending a big giant hug your way and ****stay put**** dust to those precious boys.
  • Sorry dear, this does suck,...but its what's best for those babes.  Let me know ifyou need anything, magazines, books, specific food you're craving, ANYTHING- remember, I'm just an exit away from you, I SERIOUSLY dont mind!

Take it easy, and try not to stress too much.

  • Aw, boo.?

Hopefully the boys stay put a little while longer and your BP stays stable.

I'll be thinking about you guys!

    ?

  • I never had bedrest, but I had the pre-e tightrope walk.  Ugh.  Definitely take it seriously and just try to manage.  It's all for the greater good!

  • Well crap!  Bedrest is no fun.  But hopefully it will help your boys keep cookin' for a few more weeks.

Let me know if you need anything at all...lunch, a movie, company, whatever.  I'm finally getting to the point where I NEED to get out of the house and there's only so many times you can walk around Target.  Stick out tongue

  • That stinks!  But, take the time to rest up and enjoy it as best you can.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that they stay in the cooker as long as possible!!

  • Relax.  Relax.  Relax.  Bed rest is no fun, but totally worth it to keep those babies cooking a little longer.

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • That stinks! Stay in there boys! You're not allowed to come out until my little one gets here (just kidding!) Rest up and I hope that your bp is down at your next appointment.

  • I hope they stay in there for a few more weeks!

Where are you delivering? We had a very good experience with the NICU at Seton Medical Center. There were a few nurses that we had issues with, but for the most part everyone was very caring and helpful. March of Dimes has a big presence there - they have all kinds of activities for the parents, just to help you get your mind off of things.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks so much for the encouragement and offers to entertain, ladies.  :)   I'm loaded up with my books & netflix watch instantly movies for now.  I can see how that's going to get old soon, but I'll try not to whine & make the most of it.  I just wish there weren't still so much to do!  But, yes, I promise to be good & lazy for the next, oh, let's say 2.5 weeks at least.  Please.  :)

ETA:  Rach03k, we'll be at Seton too with their new swanky maternity wing.

  • Oh no!  Seriously - I live so close to you...and I can run errands during the day.  Let me know if you need anything.

FWIW - my friend that had twins was in the hospital at 29 weeks w/ a positive FFN and actually ended up going home but they thought she would deliver any minute.  Gave her the steroids and everything.  At 35 weeks they took her off all the meds so she could go into labor.  They hadn't expected her to make it past 31 weeks.  So...you never know!!  Hang in there and keep us updated.  Hugs!
