Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Selling breast milk on Craigslist..

So seriouly this is NO JOKE.  I was checking out my local area craigslist for baby items for sale and found an ad of a 16yr old girl selling her breastmilk for $2.00 an ounce. She had this story that she was a mother of two and was still in high school, and that she was making more than her  5mth old and 17mth old could eat and she needed to make some extra money.  I tried to find the ad so I could post it but couldn't. So I surfed the net to see if anyone else does this and found the ad below. Is the crazy to anyone else. IMO I would never feed my baby someone else's breast milk. Especially someone I never even met or got tested.  I just think that this is insane.

Mama's Milk~Fresh Breast Milk for sale~ ? Roseville

  • Location: Roseville, California, United States
  • Date Posted: Jul 30
  • Price: $ 1.50
I am a 29yo mother of a two month old, have been using hospital grade pump and producing much more than my baby needs. I am a healthy non-smoker or drinker. I take prenatal vitamins and fish oil (DHA). My milk has excellent fat content as visable by settling with thick fat layer on top. Will sell for $1.50/oz. Am willing to allow local pick up or overnight mail straight from my freezer. Shipping costs paid by buyer. I am willing to provide documentation as to my health from my midwife, or undergo medical testing at buyers expense if necessary. I have already paid my dues with perverted emails...please spare me and only inquire if you are a serious non-perverted buyer! Send email to Pocodeseo@yahoo.com with the subject line Breast Milk.

    I second the WTF face.
  • Ick!

No way my baby would get craiglist BM!

Although I could use the extra money...hehe.  I wonder what kind of container they use.  Can you buy it by the gallon?
  • My mom was telling me that another woman's BM can actually be really bad for your baby because the baby is not used to the antibodies in the milk of another mom.  It has to be pasturized in order to be drank by a baby other than your own... I can't believe someone would sell their BM on craigslist... weird...

DNK! LOL at the thought of a gallon of BM. I bet it would screw right onto my lansinoh pump!!
  • I know..I could not believe this at all!!!
  • OMG!!! Gross!!! I would never buy breatmilk from someone I don't know. Who does that???
  • That's just sick.?
  • LOL..Im gonna go post this add for myself JUST to see what kind of results i get!!

    Thats just wrong!

  • Hmmm, no thank you. And you'd be spending $45+ a day on top of the groddy factor.
  • I think it's illegal to sell bodily fluids.  You can donate the milk to a bank, and they can charge a fee for time/effort, and you can pay a wetnurse for her time, but I don't know about selling milk..hmmm
  • I would think that would be against CL rules or something - the selling of personal bodily fluids??

FYI there are breast milk banks though where you can DONATE BM for preemies and others in the NICU.

    ETA - here's a linky for national donation https://www.milkinmamas.com/FAQs/

Um, yeah I don't think that's true since women have been using wet nurses waaaaaaaay before pasturization was invented.  Hmm

Um, TONS of moms of preemies, and other moms who, for whatever reason, can't produce milk for their own babies.  WTF is up with all this ignorance on breastmilk donation?

Your mom is wrong.  Gallons of breastmilk are donated and banked and used to feed babies every day - and nobody pasteurizes it.  FFS.

    Wheee!

Not to mention moms who adopt infants who want their babies to have breastmilk since it's what's best for them.

So actually, yes. A friend of mine said she saw an ad on Craigslist for guys wanting to buy BM. Guys who like to pretend they are babies. They were paying more like $20/ounce, though, so she was tempted!

  • I totally understand if you donate your milk to a bank or if you buy it from a bank for your preemie. I totally get that. If I wasn't able to bf then I would've considered it for my 25 weeker but the banks do tons of screenings on the milk before sending it to anyone. This woman has had nothing. She's just trying to make some extra cash and I think if you buy it from someone like that then its GROSS imo.

Hehe, and is it delivered?!  Ewww, this is so wrong, I have to call and tell my mom about this.
