Boat + Baby Question

Coworker has a boat and a walking 15 month old.  He's has a question about keeping his daughter still while they in dock.  Coworker has to be at the controls and wife has to be at the bow helping guide and tie up.  How can they keep the daughter from walking around during this time?  He was thinking about a carseat.  Any other ideas?

Re: Boat + Baby Question

  • We saw a family out a few weekend ago and they had bungee cords on the life jacket that was holding the little girl on the seat.  She wasn't tied down so to speak, but she couldn't get off the seat.  I laughed when I saw it, but realized they had to do something to keep her from walking around.

  • What about the booster seats they have for dinner tables (ya know...after the high chair stage?) and they come with trays, too.  They come with buckles and straps to tie the booster seat to chairs, so they should be able to rig that to the boat-seat somehow.  And, of course, the booster seat has buckles to keep the child strapped in and a tray, so they could give her a snack or something to play with while they work the boat.  Let me see if I can find what I'm talking about online.
  • i don't like that idea of strapping a kid into a seat...or to anything.  if the boat were to go under or something freakish were to happen, the baby is strapped to a chair or seat and may not float to the top of the water like they would with a life jacket.

I kind of feel this way too, but if it's just when they dock I think it would be pretty safe. Maybe a stroller would work too (like an umbrella stroller).

Yea, it's just while they're leaving and coming in trying to get in and out of the dock.  Otherwise, mom is with the daughter.  He thought about hooking a dog leash to her life vest and attaching it to the boat - guess it's about the same as the bungee cord.
