I was in the hospital last night for frequent BH contrax, and the nurse checked my cervix. She said I was a fingertip open, but still hard and long. I got kind of nervous because that seems too early to start to dilate. Especially after seeing the post from ladies who are 36+ weeks and they don't have any dilation!
Does this seem early to anyone else??
Re: 29w and already starting to dilate...is that too early??
Well I was 1 cm dilated at 28 weeks...subsequently my cervix started to shorten and I was put on bedrest. This is my second baby though...people sometimes dilate earlier with second pregnancies (because your cervix never necessarily closes back up as tight as before).
Also that manual check is pretty subjective from what I hear. If you really want to know if your cervix looks ok they should do a transvaginal cervical check. Things are probably fine, but keep track of the BH and call if you have more than 6 an hour that you can't get stopped by laying on your left side and drinking lots of water.
Good Luck!
If the doctors are not concerned, I wouldn't be either!
I have a friend who was dilated at 35w and went 10 days past due. And here I am on my EDD with nothing. Who knows what it means!?!
I've been 1 cm dilated since 30 weeks! I've been getting regular internal exams since 15 weeks because of contractions, so we know that I went from closed to open in a week period!
Last week my cervix was more soft and anterior but was still only 1 cm dilated! I'm getting weekly checks and also fFN test!
I think your dr. will want to watch you more closely.
This is what the nurse said. She said it was a good sign that it was still long and thick. I go in for a follow-up next week, and I'll probably be having internals from now on. It still worries me a bit, but I'm trying not to freak out.
