  • Anything by Shel Silverstein.  Oh, and "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" and all of Seuss' books.
  • I loved the Jolly Postman.  It has letters you could pull out and read.  It is a cute book.  Also, Goodnight Moon, was a huge hit with me.

  • Anything by Shel Silverstein, the Critter books, Dr. Seuss, Where the Wild Things Are...
  • A Pocket for Corduroy

    Pokey Little Puppy

  • Wolfie - about a tranutala (sp?) that a kid has a pet.  It freaked my mom out so I loved her to read it to me.

I had a Cinderella book that came with a 45 record that read the story to you and there were window cling type of things for each page so you could stick the Fairy Godmother's wand on, the glass slipper and her wedding bouquet.

  • I LOVED the poetry book by Shel Silverstein called "where the sidewalk ends" it is fulls of funny poems geared toward children.
  • Why don't you take him to the library and pick out his own? He may be a little more inclined to listen if it's something that peaks his interest.
  • I liked the books out from the 'Little Golden Book' line.  I also liked everything from Dr. Seuss,'Goodnight Moon' and 'Pat the Bunny'.  There's a really good one called, 'Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs'  It's about people getting their food from the sky, it just depended on what type of storm was coming in.  I loved that one!

When I got older I really liked the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary.

  • Kitty's New Doll

    Anything Berenstein Bears

My bad. I just assumed you had another one at home. LOL. You can still take him to the library. I just don't think he'll be picking anything out just yet.

    I loved "The Giving Tree".

I read DS a lot of my old favorite- some of them are the actual books from my childhood that I found in my parents basement. He (and I) love

There's a Monster at the End of This Book

    Where the Wild Things Are

Anything Dr. Seuss- can't go wrong with that man.

Whose Mouse are You? (though I can't find this in print anymore, so that might not be much help)

Goodnight Moon and the Runaway Bunny

    Blueberries for Sal

Any of the old nursery rhymes/fairy tales (DS loves the Gingerbread Man- he sings the refrain whenever he's trying to get away from us)

But, seriously, don't limit yourself to just your childhood favorites- Children's Lit these days is fantastic, and while the classics are good, the new stuff is fun too!

  • Random House Book of Children's Poetry

31 and I can still recite one of the poems in there.

Jolly Postman!!! I totally forgot about those. Great reminder, will need to start looking for all these books.

  • Each Peach Pear Plum (Janet & Alan Ahlberg) and Goodnight, Goodnight (Eve Rice).

I know there were lots of others. My mother is on a mission this summer to find as many of the good old books as she can at garage sales and library sales!

  • I loved any of the Berenstain Bear books (esp BB go to the Dr.!)

Stand Back Said The Elephant I'm Going to Sneeze by Patricia Thomas

"There are Rocks in my Socks" said the Ox to the Fox  by Patricia Thomas

  • I read a lot of Beatrix Potter when I was little. =)  Oh, little Squirrel Nutkin ...
