did you know

I just put the wife on my insurance yesterday and as most of you know that the benefits she gets will be taxed. But we found out yesterday that once the baby is born they count us as a "normal" family and it will nolonger be taxed.  Glad to know this and now we will only be taxed until september!!!! Yeah another reason to have a baby!  But I think it just highlights how stupid it is that we taxed in the first place!

Re: did you know

  • But that's just at the state level right?  And it's because you're in Massachusetts. I think you'll still have federal taxes taken out.  I could be wrong.  We fought this battle but lost because we're in NY and our marriage is only partly recognized.  Keep us posted on when/if it changes once Baby G is here.

  • Wow, I think that's great that you have the option to put her on your insurance!! (No such luck for us.) And what great news that it won't be taxed after the baby is born! Yeah, definitely highlights the stupidity, though-- that a baby would all of a sudden make your couplehood more "real" to the insurance people.

  • I think it is fedral.  Because we are legally married here in MA I am pretty sure that it is the fedral tax that we are dealing with.  I will have to check the paper they gave me.

  • is the rate of coverage for family the same no matter how many people are on the plan? my guess is it is, and that's probably why. the family plan is for you and the baby--with s on there too, but the rate of coverage would be the same if she wasn't--so it would be exempt federally because it's providing coverage to the baby. that's my best guess, anyway.

  • Great news. I hope that is true at the federal too! **runs off to get pregnant** :-)
  • Let us know about the federal tax part. I am under the understanding that we will always be taxed on the federal level because our civil union isn't recognized. We were not taxed here in NJ though.
