3rd Trimester

My clothes fit, darn it! (vent)

I read a post not long ago from someone who was getting comments about how she was about to burst out of her clothes - which were new, and did in fact fit her.

I'm starting to get this and it really gets on my nerves. I just bought some new mat shirts to fit my ever-expanding belly (the tank tops I had gotten in a size bigger than I needed to begin with from Motherhood are already getting too freaking short), and the first time I wore one to work, I got a comment from a 60-something who's never had kids (she used to be a microbiologist but me talking to her about labor gives her the heebie-jeebies) that was along the lines of, "Oh my gosh! You are about to pop right out of that shirt! What are you going to wear for the next few months?"

Well... I'm going to wear this shirt - because it DOES fit! Just because it makes my bump a little more obvious doesn't mean the seams are about to pop! I shouldn't have to wear a tent just so you think my clothes fit.

I will definitely not miss this part of being pg.

  • A coworker of mine refused to get maternity clothes...and she was literally BUSTING out of her clothes. Her belly kept popping out the bottom, boobs out the top, and you could see every stitch in the seems of her shirts.

To help make those maternity clothes last longer, get some long tanks or undershirts. All of my maternity clothes are not long enough anymore, so I need to layer.

  • It's amazing that she has never been pg but still has comments to make. That would drive me crazy too.

  • I like the more fitted look for maternity shirts too. I have a couple of the looser ones that were given to me by my SIL, and they are really nice, I just like the way I look a lot more with a fitted shirt on.

I agree with PP. Loose clothes just make me feel fat. Fitted maternity clothes at least make me feel cute and pregnant...even if I am fat...LOL
  • I think this is a generational thing.  A couple decades ago all maternity clothes were tent like in an effort to "conceal" the pregnant belly.  I HATE shirts like that!!!  I'd much rather wear something tight so that it's obvious that my tummy is a baby bump!
