3rd Trimester

coming home outfit size?

We only have 2 short sleeve onesies in newborn size, everything else is 0-3 months. With our first I know we used newborn sizes for a very limited time, but should I go out and pickup a newborn outfit to wear home or do you think 0-3 months will fit ok?

Re: coming home outfit size?

  • We are bringing outfits in both NB and 0-3 just in case.

  • Mine is for a baby that weighs between 5-8 pounds. The dr told us that we would have a baby that is around 7-8 pounds b/c DH and I were big babies so I went with that in finding what size to bring.
  • Have you had a growth u/s or anything telling you about the size of your baby? I'm expected to have a bigger baby so i'm taking a cute 0-3 month outfit and a newborn onesie just incase the 0-3 month outfit eats her alive.

  • Ditto PP bring something in both sizes.
  • DH and I were both 8+ pound babies, so we're just going with the 0-3.

That is, assuming the growth u/s at the end of the month estimates he's on track or big, and not small.

i got the same outfit, one in each size so that she would fit into the outfit i picked out for her to come home in! i loved it so much :)
  • we are going with a dress 0-3. with a white onesie underneth!

    This.

We only bought a 5-pack on NB onesies since he probably won't be in the size for long.

  • We are team green and have no idea how big the baby is going to be, so I'm bringing money with me that I'm going to give to my sister/mom while we are in the hospital so they can go buy something. I know they will love the job and think it will be fun for baby to finally have some 'gender specific' clothes. Plus then we'll know how big he/she is.

  • I'm bringing a NB outfit. Plus, remember babies tend to lost some weight from the time they are born to the time they leave the hospital.

If she comes out a little chunker, I'll have my mom or DH run home and grab a bigger outfit! We have 2  midnights at the hospital, so there is time.

This is a great idea, I think I will do the same!

  • Bring both.  It mostly depends on how long your baby is.  Our LO is still in NB outfits at 7 weeks.  He's 9lbs 6oz now.  You don't need to stock up just yet on NB outfits, but if your baby will fit in them, I would suggest getting more than just 2.  Our LO goes through at least 2 a day!

I am team green too... so I just have something gender neutral in 0-3 and if it's big, we'll just roll up the sleeves and make due.

  • Right now I just have a NB sized outfit, but may throw in a 0-3 month sized just in case - but she isn't predicted to be very big, so I think the newborn size will work just fine.

A friend of mine had a baby recently who was just around 7lbs. at birth and then lost some of the weight right after (down to the low - mid 6lb. range I believe) and they had to go out and get some preemie sized clothes because he was swimming in the newborn stuff. It all depends on the baby I guess.

  • 0-3 if it is a bit big it's not going to hurt anything.

  • My son was 8 pounds 6 ounces and we thought he would be in 0-3 but it was huge on him!  I think newborn would be perfect.  I am consideing preemie with this one because i want it to fit perfect.

  • I couldnt find a NB outfit I liked other than a onsie....so it will be big on him regardless. Supposedly our baby is either small or normal sized so I am sure he will be fine. Its just an outfit and I figure who the heck cares if its big. He will still be cute in it and he can grow into it. Id much rather him be able to wear it again and get my monies worth!
  • I am bringing both, I know that the baby will lose some weight before he leaves the hospital so I want to be sure.
  • Our first was born at full term (40 weeks) and he came home in preemie clothing because he was so small...5lb 12oz and 19 1/2in.  I would take nb for sure.
  • With DS, I brought a NB and a 0-3 size outfit. He was 7lbs 15oz and NB was a little big, but worked fine. He had a blow out after we put it on him, so had no choice to have him in the  0-3 outfit for his pics/coming home which looked ridiculous because it was so big. So, with DD, I will be bringing several NB outfits (just in case another blow out occurs!)...and maybe even a preemie size depending on what the size they predict her to be.
  • DD was 6 lbs 13 oz and 18.5 inches.  DH went out to buy her a going home outfit after she was born and decided on NB.  She was swimming in it.  She actually wore premiee outfits for the first 2 weeks.
  • DS was 8lbs8oz and newborn was still a little big on him at first.  I had gotten him a preemie outfit and had some NB with me and the preemie fit perfect.  This time I have 1 preemie and a few NB I will bring.  The recommended weights for the NB and 0-3 aren't set in stone, most babies fit in NB for a few weeks even if they are on the bigger side.

I have a very cute 0-3mth outfit but I'll also bring a onesie in NB just in case she's a little thing.
