2nd Trimester

What are you doing to keep in shape?

I am wondering what everyone is doing to keep in shape. If it is helping, stay toned or if they are getting toned in the process. I really need to get my arms and legs nice and toned. My legs were looking good when I was running but I haven't been doing that for about 6wks now.  If I don't get these legs looking decent I will turn into a hermit this summer. LOL

Re: What are you doing to keep in shape?

  • Walking on a 4.5-5 incline at a speed of 4.3.  Or using the elliptical trainer at a high resistance.  I occasionally do some squats and leg lifts but find the cardio to be more important.

  • I am......eating a lot of fruit?? LOL. I never was big into working out before getting pregnant. And now with what it took to finally get pregnant, I am nervous to "damage" anything if I start now. Plus I have placenta previa so I don't want to risk bleeding.
  • I take DS for a 2.5-3 mile walk every evening. I have been going to the gym less and less.

    ditto this!lolol

  • I'm concentrating on gaining weight right now.  Plus- it hurts to walk right now.  Hopefully that will go away soon.  The nurses all say it should go away once this growth spurt is over.

  • I ordered a DVD "pilates during pregnancy" it just came yesterday though so I havent used it yet.  The reveiws on amazon were pretty good though.  I will let you know how it turns out!

  • pilaties always make my butt and legs look good. but i havent done that in ummm lets see a month or so . oooops
  • I've been walking about 2 miles, 4 times a week and doing some weights at home for my arms. ?We'll see how long it lasts!
  • strength training class at the gym 1x a week (i have cut back, and left early when they do abs) and then walking on the treadmill at a 5.0 incline (to keep the butt and legs in shape) I have tried to do weights after this, but have found that my energy is gone and don't really have the discipline on my own anymore?

i think i've maintained my pre pregancy legs and arms, although wish i were a little more toned.?

This, also walking to kitchen, walking to toilet....

  • So I am really thinking I need to get on that treadmill with an incline. :) Thanks ladies!
  • Running about 5 days a week & weights 2-3 days. With dd#1 I ran the same amount the entire pregnancy...even the day I delivered! I felt so much better having done so & I plan on doing the same thing this time.

  • If the shape you mean is round, I'd say my frequent Chipotle cravings are contributing to being "in shape."

Seriously, I try to go for walks with DH and the dog as often as I can. I'd like to get into prenatal yoga, but the classes are so darn expensive!

  • I ordered a prenatal Yoga video. I had a nice time watching it while I sat on the couch eating cookies.
  • I walk the dogs each day, do some light weights a couple times a week, go to spin class a couple times a week, do some walking/jogging on the arctrainer at the gym, and am going to start swimming regularly once the local pool opens for the summer.

  • I've been exercising about 5 times a week, mostly cardio.  I've been keeping a couple nights of weight training in there as well.

I'm thinking I need to add some yoga in there as well.  Childbirth class instructor seems to think that yoga is good preparation for labor (learning to relax and all that)

  • During my 1st tri, I mostly walked the dogs every evening because I was nervous each time I tried to run on the treadmill. But I've now returned to the gym almost everyday. I do something different each day...run, walk on the incline, stairmaster & bike. Whatever keeps it interesting. I feel much better for it!

  • I am doing water aerobics 4 nights a week.  Once class is in the shallow end and my other class is deep water jogging.  I love doing this and it is definitely helping me to stay in shape.

    I second that~

  • My mom was recently laid off and since the doctor has brought the hammer down on my weight, we're walking together most mornings, about 8 miles a week. It's nice that I get to spend time with my mom!
