How much does your 2 week old sleep? ?Right now we have him on some what of a night time schedule where get ready for bed around 9:30-10:00 and will sleep 2 to 2.5 hours at a time before I wake him or he wakes up to nurse again (Pedi said to do this until he regains his birth weight and we go to his two week follow up Friday to find out if he has). ?This goes on all night and we are normally offically up for the day around 8ish. ?Then he will normally nap between one or two feedings during the day for 2-2.5 hours. ?
Seems like most newborns this young are napping some between each feeding. ?Is it odd that he is awake and so alert for a good part of the day? ??
Re: 2 week sleeping
Ours changes slightly each day, and he was born at 5lbs and released at just under 5lbs but within one week gained back what he lost plus 5oz - we were given no such recommendation of waking him every two hours for feeding just the standard 3-4 hours:
Here is our schedule, roughly, from the past couple of days
9pm: "bed time" - 4oz then to sleep
12:30a: he wakes - 3.5 to 4oz - back to sleep
4:30-5a: he wakes - 3.5 to 4oz - back to sleep
8a: he wakes - 2oz - back to sleep for a couple of hours
10a: another two ounces and generally stays awake for a couple of hours or goes in and out of light sleep
1:30p: 3 oz and typically stays a wake for a couple of hours
5pm: 4 oz and typically sleeps for three hours
The first week or so he was pretty much a sleep for three to four hours after each feeding. However, in the past week he has gradually become more alert. At first he was alert for 4-5 hours at night into early morning. We were able to, thus far, re-adjust that so he stays alert in the late afternoon more so he sleeps better at night. I think he will gradually get so he doesn't take naps as often and stays more alert.
