A girl in my Newborn Care class...

Is due in one week. And while I realize I do more research/reading then the average pregnant person (non-bumpies of course) I was a little shocked by her questions. Can the baby sleep with pillows? I can't fully submerge (ok, she said dunk) the baby in water right away? Doesn't having an uncircumsized penis make babies sick? If I don't bathe the baby everyday won't he stink? So, the baby can't sleep on his stomach? Huh?

Wow, the dunking question is funny. At least she is asking the questions and didn't decide to just go ahead and do them. I had no clue about babies but am doing lots of reading to prep.

Why did the instructor/nurse not intervene and say "You obviously need a lot of help. Stay after class, and we'll discuss this.....for the next week until your poor baby comes into senseless parents' hands!"

Oh my....

Although in our baby class last night, they were talking about breech positions, and DH looked at the picture of the transverse breech baby (on it's side) - which is what we think our LO is right now and said "Sooo, that ones pretty much a guarenteed c-section?" and got mad at my unblinking stare.

it is sad, but what's sadder is that there are people (like my SIL) who don't know that you have to sponge bathe an infant till the cord falls off. Due to some drama at her house, she brought her 1 week old to live with us for a few weeks. The first night she was here, she decided to "bathe" the baby. I brought her a damp washcloth. She took the cloth and the baby to the kitchen sink, filled it with water, and held the baby in it and washed it from head to toe. I screamed inside, but managed to politely suggest that it probably wasn't a good idea. THAT, my friends, is a major fail.
